Exclusive: Norwich Eye Sammie Szmodics as Backup if Kasper Høgh Deal Collapses
Norwich City are considering Ipswich Town's Sammie Szmodics as an alternative to Kasper Høgh. Canaries are facing issues with Josh Sargent and looking to sign a striker. Szmodics has struggled recently but has a history of goals in the Championship. Sargent's potential move to Toronto FC may happen soon, but he has previously expressed loyalty to Norwich.

Norwich City have added Ipswich Town’s Sammie Szmodics to a list of alternatives if the Kasper Høgh deal falls through, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Canaries’ Sporting Director Ben Knapper is working tirelessly behind the scenes to sign a striker this window amid the ongoing Josh Sargent saga.
Norwich have reportedly tabled a £6million bid for Bodø/Glimt striker Høgh as the club’s hierarchy back head coach Philippe Clement to bring in a forward to replace wantaway hitman Sargent.
But with time running out to get a new striker through the door, our sources have been told City's top brass are keeping their options open if they need to pivot towards a new target in the closing days of the window.
It is understood Ipswich hitman Szmodics has emerged as one of the candidates on the list of potential strikers should Høgh’s highly-anticipated fails to materialise.
Szmodics has struggled for goals this season with just one in 18 games for the Tractor Boys so far this term.
But he is an experienced goal getter at Championship level. The 30-year-old won the Championship Golden Boot after he netted an impressive 27 goals in 44 games for Blackburn Rovers two seasons ago.
That impressive campaign earned him a four-year deal ahead of Ipswich’s long-awaited Premier League return, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances as the Kieran McKenna’s charges were relegated straight back to the second tier.
Sorry Saga
It looks destined Sargent, who is training with the development squad after no-showing the club’s FA Cup game with Walsall earlier this month, will leave the club under a sad cloud.
Norwich accepted a bid from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer, but the move fell through with Sargent not wanting to move to Germany.
Earlier this season, Sargent said: “I don't have any plans of leaving at the moment, I'm very happy here. I know it's been a bit of a rough patch for the club, but I'm fully focused on turning it around and doing my best for this club. I stayed for a reason.”
But an opportunity to return to the MLS with Toronto FC, who are yet to match Norwich’s valuation, has turned his head.
