Norwich City are eyeing up a return for local lad Joe Taylor as Championship clubs circle the striker, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Our sources understand there are a number of second-tier clubs chasing the in-form hitman, who is currently on loan at League One strugglers Wigan Athletic.

Taylor, who was unveiled in a dual press conference alongside Dion Charles just 14 months ago at Huddersfield Town, is contracted at the Terriers until the summer of 2030.

But the former Peterborough United and Luton Town hitman has struggled during his time in Yorkshire and it is understood the club are open to offers for the 23-year-old.

After a sorry saga for the club with Josh Sargent eventually moving to Toronto FC after the English window had shut, the Canaries are in the market for a new striker.

There are a number of options on Ben Knapper’s wish list, with old boy Taylor, who played in the club’s academy until being released at 15, one of the club's targets.

But there is competition for his signature with the likes of Preston North End and Oxford United also reportedly after the sought-after striker’s services this summer.

Norwich primary striker target earlier this year had been Kasper Høgh, with the Canaries hierarchy pushing hard to secure a January deal for the FK Bodø/Glimt forward. They saw offers in the €8m–€9m range knocked back during the winter window, and any move ultimately fell through as the player opted to stay and play his part in the club’s historic UEFA Champions League run.

With Bodø/Glimt now expected to demand a significantly higher fee and Celtic emerging as favourites for his signature this summer, Norwich have been forced to turn their attention to alternative striking options.

Coming Of Age

Capped at Wales U21 level, Taylor struggled at professional level in the early stages of his career with just one goal in 22 games for Peterborough and none in 19 for Luton.

But the 2023/24 campaign was a coming of age season for the forward.

He spent the first half of the campaign at League Two Colchester United, bagging 12 goals in 27, before ten goals in 19 appearances for League One Lincoln City.

That season earned him his long deal at Huddersfield, where he has netted just nine goals in 42 games.

But his return to the prolific form he showed at Colchester and Lincoln during his current loan spell at  Wigan, scoring nine times in 13 league games since his January move, has attracted the attention of suitors.
