Micky van de Ven has turned down contract talks as he eyes a summer exit from Tottenham Hotspur, SportsBoom can reveal.
The defender has had his head turned by interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
And our sources have been told he is not open to discussing a contract extension with the Premier League club as things go from bad to worse for Spurs.
The 24-year-old is contracted to the club until 2029, but Tottenham are understood to have wanted to tie him down to a new five-year deal which would secure his future in north London until 2031.
But the Dutch international sees his future away from Spurs, who have endued a catastrophic season.
It has been reported that Spurs would want an eye-watering £100million for the centre-back, who they signed from VfL Wolfsburg for £34.5million, which could rise to £43million with add-ons, in 2023.
Manchester United were linked with a move for the defender, but our sources have been told that is wide of the mark, with Real Madrid favourites in the race for the defender.
However, it is understood Spurs, who refused to entertain interest in van de Ven during the winter window, are loathe to part company with the player unless the price is right.
Tottenham are also bracing themselves for the potential departure of another centre-back, as wonderkid Luka Vušković is reportedly attracting mega offers from Real Madrid and Europe’s elite.
Spurs' Struggles
It has been a calamitous campaign for Spurs, who are languishing in 16th place just four points clear of the relegation zone.
They have not won a Premier League game this calendar year, a run which reached ten games after their 2-1 defeat at Fulham on Sunday.
Thomas Frank was sacked last month and replaced by interim boss Igor Tudor until the end of the season, but that has done little to change the club’s domestic fortunes.
It comes less than a year after Ange Postecoglou led the club to Europa League glory, their first European trophy for over 40 years.
