Liverpool outcast Harvey Elliott has started putting feelers out to find a new club to end his Aston Villa loan nightmare, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The former England Under-21 international has started just ONE Premier League game for Villa this season since joining the club on a season-long loan deal.
Worryingly for Villa, who have an obligation to buy the player, the club considering paying a penalty fee and letting Elliott leave earlier than anyone could have possibly anticipated unless he seriously bucks up his ideas.
Elliott’s move to Villa Park was set to resurrect his career, but frustrated Villa boss Unai Emery has not seen enough from the 22-year-old yet to warrant integrating the winger into his starting side.
Elliott started Villa’s 3-1 home win over Fulham, but he was hauled off at half-time.
And he has managed just 52 minutes of action in the other Premier League games where he been selected in Emery’s squad.
The former Fulham and Blackburn youngster last played for Villa at the start of October, over a month ago, used a very late substitute in the club’s 2-0 away win over Dutch side Feyenoord in the Champions League.
In other news, Aston Villa are exploring a move to rekindle their interest in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich but could look to override that deal in search of a Premier League return.
RED ALERT
Since then Elliott has not played in the Villa first-team and Liverpool are now on red alert for trying to find a new club for the midfielder.
Elliott’s position almost mirrors that of fellow loan recruit Jadon Sancho, who also joined the club on a season-long loan, albeit from Manchester United.
The former England international has also hardly figured for Villa this term, having not started a single Premier League game and mustered just 91 minutes across four top-flight domestic fixtures.
It’s fair to say both loan deal, which promised plenty, have not turned out as planned, with Emery underwhelmed with what he’s seen so far from Elliott and Sancho.
The realistic possibility of Elliott leaving earlier has alerted a string of clubs to his availability, with Napoli, Crystal Palace and Sunderland having all made initial enquiries about the player’s next move.
