Leeds United Plot Shock Return for Crysencio Summerville as West Ham Relegation Triggers Transfer Race

Leeds United are exploring the possibility of trying to lure Cryscencio Summerville back to Elland Road following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Although Daniel Farke and his coaching staff have yet to decide on whether to press ahead with a bid for the 24-year-old, SportsBoom understands several senior figures at the West Yorkshire club would welcome the prospect of re-signing a player they sold 21 months ago.
Having agreed a long-term contract which could stretch until 2030, Nuno Espirito Santo’s employers are unlikely to have finished paying for the Dutchman.
And that, as Roma also monitors his situation closely, could give Leeds a head start if they decide to pursue their interest, given that they could use West Ham’s debt to negotiate a fee below the £25m the Londoners paid to acquire his services.
WOEFUL SEASON
Summerville is among a select band of members of Nuno’s squad to escape what has been a woeful season with their reputation intact, having netted seven times in 33 outings since August.
With his career now on an upward trajectory, he is unlikely to welcome the prospect of competing in the Championship, while West Ham’s precarious financial position is set to trigger the departure of several key names.
With Wilfried Gnonto set to leave West Yorkshire this summer, Farke is set to be in the market for a new winger capable of providing support for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and easing some of the pressure on the former Everton marksman to supply a regular supply of goals.
With Roma set to compete in Europe next term, Summerville would take some convincing to reject the Italians if they officially enter the race for his services.
AMBITIOUS PLANS
But, having preserved their top-flight status after being promoted last summer, Leeds have ambitious plans to upgrade the options at Farke’s disposal as their owners, 49ers Enterprises, attempt to build on that progress and record a mid-table finish next term.
Three of the four seasons Summerville spent at Leeds, after joining from Feyenoord for an undisclosed sum, were spent in the PL before heading to the capital.
“Set-pieces are not our thing, lately,” he said. “Brentford’s first chance against us came from a throw-in.”
Born in Wormer, van de Ven began his career with Volendam before heading to Germany.
Editor's Insight
Leeds would be the romantic move and makes sense given their need for wide reinforcements, but Roma’s European football and West Ham’s need to recoup value point towards a more competitive bidding environment. Ultimately, this feels like one that drifts away from Elland Road unless Leeds move early and decisively.
