Brentford are lining up a move to keep fan favourite Rico Henry at the club, with the Bees determined not to lose the defender for nothing this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Our sources can reveal the West London club are ready to trigger a one-year extension in Henry’s deal, which he signed back in 2022, with the left-back now approaching the end of that agreement.

The Bees hold the option to extend and have no intention of letting one of their most important players walk away on a free.

SportsBoom sources understand several Premier League clubs are circling, alert to Henry’s situation.

But Brentford are digging their heels in and have been handed a major boost, with the Jamaica international himself believed to be happy in West London and keen to stay for at least another season.

Now 28, Henry has been at the heart of Brentford’s remarkable rise. Since arriving from Walsall in 2016, he has clocked up a decade at the club, with the last five seasons spent competing in the Premier League, underlining his importance through every step of their journey to the top and beyond.

A Birmingham-born talent, Henry burst onto the scene at Walsall, making his senior debut at just 17.

He quickly made his mark during his breakthrough spell, picking up the club’s Young Player of the Year award, earning England youth honours at Under-19 and Under-20 level, and collecting a string of individual accolades, including an EFL Young Player of the Month prize, a place in the League One PFA Team of the Year and a nomination for the EFL’s top young player honour.

Brentford are bracing for a busy summer in the transfer market, with the Bees likely to face departures at both ends of the pitch. Star striker Igor Thiago is expected to attract significant interest, leaving the club preparing for life without one of their key goal threats. Meanwhile, winger Kevin Schade has also been drawing attention from across the Premier League and abroad.

Even a frustrating recent hamstring injury hasn’t changed Brentford’s stance. If anything, it has strengthened it.

The club’s willingness to push ahead with an extension while he continues his recovery speaks volumes about how highly he is valued behind the scenes.

Boss Keith Andrews is one of his biggest admirers and made that crystal clear when he recently revealed.

“He epitomises the way I like the game to be played: aggressive and front-footed,” said Andrews.

“And he’s been a big, big part of what has been the best chapter in this club’s history; he’s been on the journey.”

Those words underline exactly why Brentford are so determined to keep hold of him.

With interest building and a contract decision looming, all signs point towards the Bees pulling the trigger on that extension.

And with Henry settled, valued and central to the club’s identity, this is one deal Brentford are hungry to get settled.
