Andy Cook is shooting himself towards a future contract at Grimsby Town, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The striker, on loan from Bradford City, has netted four goals since moving to the Mariners to keep them within touching distance of the League Two play-offs.
Our sources understand the Mariners would like to keep the 35-year-old hitman, who becomes a free agent in the summer after his loan spell from the Bantams officially ends, after latest talks among club chiefs.
However, Grimsby don’t yet know which league they will be competing in. And it may be they revamp their squad if the Blundell Park club earns promotion to League One for the first time in 2004.
Cook, who recovered from a potentially career ending ACL injury in January 2025, has certainly proved his value for Dave Artell’s outfit.
His goal, the opener in a 5-0 whitewash of bottom of the table Barrow last Saturday, was his fourth since joining the club in January.
He also netted three times for Bradford taking his tally to 88 for the Yorkshire side in 205 appearances making him the club’s fourth highest all-time scorer.
Plenty Of Suitors
Ironically, Barrow were one of the clubs looking at acquiring the services of their former player in the January transfer window.
And that could be the case again at the end of the current campaign, especially if they stave off relegation to retain their EFL status.
Goals have been in short supply for the Cumbrians this term. Only fellow strugglers Harrogate Town have scored fewer.
And regardless of their status next season, a proven goal scorer will be high on their list of priorities.
Another former club Tranmere Rovers could look to recruit Bishop Auckland born Cook, who has also represented Walsall and Mansfield, if Grimsby don’t retain his services.
Grimsby currently occupy the final play-off place but only two points separate them from Walsall in 11th.
