Everton are weighing up a move for Aaron Ramsdale as they look to put plans in place for life after Jordan Pickford, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

SportsBoom understands the Toffees regard the Southampton goalkeeper as a potential long-term replacement for England's number one, with Ramsdale expected to be one of the most sought-after keepers on the market this summer.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Newcastle United, but the Magpies have opted against making the move permanent, leaving Ramsdale searching for a new club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Ramsdale is keen to remain in the Premier League and has little appetite for a season in the Championship after Southampton failed to secure an immediate return to the top flight following the controversial "Spygate" saga that overshadowed the closing weeks of their promotion push.

Everton are closely monitoring the situation as they assess their options in the goalkeeping department.

ESTABLISHED

While Pickford remains firmly established as David Moyes' first-choice goalkeeper, the club are understood to be looking further ahead and sees Ramsdale as a player capable of eventually taking over the gloves at Goodison Park's successor home.

The former England international boasts a wealth of top-flight experience despite still being in the prime years of his career.

Last season, Ramsdale made 23 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, although only 12 of those came in the Premier League.

In the previous campaign, he featured 30 times in the top flight for Southampton and has also amassed significant Premier League experience during spells with Arsenal and Sheffield United.

His rise through the football pyramid has been one of English football's success stories.

Ramsdale began his senior career at Chesterfield before gaining valuable experience on loan at AFC Wimbledon in League One.

In other Everton news, the club are also planning a midfield rebuild, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tim Iroegbunam linked with exits, while Torino’s Cesare Casadei has emerged as their top target.

EXPERIENCE

He later established himself at Bournemouth, earned a move to Sheffield United and then secured a high-profile switch to Arsenal.

Since then, Ramsdale has remained a regular figure in the Premier League and continues to be highly regarded across the game for his shot-stopping ability, leadership and experience.

With Newcastle moving in a different direction and Southampton facing another season outside the top flight, Ramsdale's future is expected to become one of the summer's most intriguing goalkeeper stories.

And Everton could be ready to steal a march on their rivals by positioning themselves at the front of the queue for a keeper they believe could one day fill Pickford's sizeable gloves.

This one looks set to go right down to the wire. Ramsdale is expected to wait for a Premier League option offering clearer guarantees of minutes, but Everton remains firmly in the frame. If nothing more secure materialises, the Toffees are well placed to step in with a deal as he weighs up competition for Jordan Pickford and a long-term route to becoming No.1.
