A squad brimming with talent, Chelsea still feel like a work-in-progress under Maresca. Although there were positives from the 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal, they fluffed their lines away to Leeds with a rather sloppy display. An uninspiring draw away to Bournemouth was also a missed opportunity.

Cole Palmer, who made his first start in three months away to Cherries, will no doubt give the Blues a lift, given he’s been their main talisman over the past couple of seasons. While results have been mixed, Chelsea will be aware that a coveted top-four berth is by no means a certainty.

Keeping things tight at the back is a necessity as the Blues have conceded 15 goals this term, but with a nice run of fixtures between now and the end of the year, they will be looking to make hay.

Key Players to Watch

  • Cole Palmer
    While injuries have restricted Cole Palmer’s involvement to five league appearances, he can make defenders look silly, and he is ice cold in front of goal, so the Toffees will be on red alert.
  • Alejandro Garnacho
    Alejandro Garnacho loves to hog the left touchline, and he has a good engine. He’s had three goal involvements this term, but he seems to be enjoying his football more at Chelsea, unlike Manchester United, where he seemed more constrained.
  • Pedro Neto
    A slippery customer, Pedro Neto makes timely runs, and his link-up play is superb. Seven goal involvements in the league this term attest to that, and Everton will need a game plan for him.

Maresca’s tinkering against Leeds didn’t pay off, but there could be more changes in the pipeline. Liam Delap, however, is facing up to two months on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder, depleting Chelsea’s attacking options.

Disciplined and well-organised under David Moyes, Everton have made serious strides this term. It has been a good past month or so, and bar the 4-1 reverse at home to Newcastle, they’ve picked up points on their travels.

The Toffees beat Manchester United and Bournemouth in their past two away games by the same scoreline (1-0), and they have a newfound sense of belief.

Everyone is buying into the project, and the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest oozed confidence. Moyes will look to continue the good work against Chelsea.

  • Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
    Marauding and purposeful, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gives Everton plenty of width. He’s the club’s top scorer with four goals, and he’s contributed a couple of assists. Chelsea will need to keep him quiet.
  • Jack Grealish
    Jack Grealish’s swagger has returned. He’s always looking to take on defenders and get crosses in early. Four Premier League assists prove his importance to the cause.
  • Thierno Barry
    While he had a quiet start to life at Everton after joining over the summer, Thierno Barry is up and running after opening his account against Forest, and he could give Chelsea plenty to think about.

Barry picked up a shoulder injury against Forest, so he will be assessed ahead of the trip to Chelsea. However, Idrissa Gueye is expected to return after serving a three-match suspension for his sending off against Manchester United.
