Leeds United vs Crystal Palace Preview: Odds, Tips & Prediction

Date: Saturday, December 20 Venue: Elland Road Kick-off: 8:00pm GMT Leeds United will look to continue their mini-resurgence when they face high-flying Crystal Palace on Saturday evening. Elland Road will likely be a cauldron of noise, and Leeds, under Daniel Farke, have been picking up points in their bid to keep their heads above the water. They have embarked on a three-game unbeaten run, and they will be eager to stun Palace, who lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City, in their bid to achieve a top-four berth and a Champions League spot next term. Although Leeds were thrashed 5-1 in the previous Premier League meeting with Palace in April 2023, they generally have a decent record against the Eagles. All the best football betting sites will carry lines for this game, and SportsBoom has given you the inside track on what to expect, combining through football betting tips and sharing the latest odds.

Leeds United Current Form – LLWDD

After narrow defeats against Aston Villa and Manchester City, Leeds haven’t capitulated; no, they have turned things around, and they picked up three points against Chelsea earlier this month with a handsome 3-1 win.

This was followed up by spirited displays against Liverpool and Brentford, where they salvaged a point, and against the Reds, they battled back well after going behind twice.

Although Farke was trading as one of the favourites to be the first manager to be sacked before the start of the campaign, he has moulded his players well. Leeds are doing well, considering the games they’ve played in recent weeks, but they’ve got tough-looking matches against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Manchester United over the next fortnight.

Key Players to Watch

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin
While he was previously a maligned figure at Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin appears rejuvenated at Leeds. He’s in fabulous scoring form, netting in each of his past four league games, so Palace will need to pay close attention to him.
  • Ethan Ampadu
Although he hasn’t provided an assist or goal in the league this term, Ethan Ampadu provides a calming presence in the heart of midfield. That said, he needs to be careful as he’s one booking away from a suspension.
  • Anton Stach
Although operating more as a defensive midfielder, Anton Stach has weighed in with four goal involvements (two goals and two assists), and he gives Leeds stability. Stach does the basics well, too.

Leeds Team News

Lukas Nmecha (hamstring) missed the draw with Brentford, but he is a doubt to face Palace. Sean Longstaff (calf), meanwhile, isn’t expected to return to action until the New Year.

Crystal Palace Current Form – WLWWL

Compact, but also exciting going forward, Oliver Glasner has put Palace into the Champions League conversation.

Currently fifth in the table, just two points adrift of the top four, the Eagles saw their recent good run spoiled by Manchester City, who cantered to a routine win at Selhurst Park last weekend.

The Eagles were unable to snuff out Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, who orchestrated the win for the visitors, but Palace will feel like they have some chance to put pressure on the teams above them, judging by their upcoming run of fixtures.

Key Players to Watch

  • Jean-Philippe Mateta
Currently Palace’s top scorer with seven league goals to his name, Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park ahead of the January transfer window, but he remains vital to the cause.
  • Adam Wharton
Although he missed three months of last season with a groin injury, Adam Wharton appears to have hit his stride at Palace, and he looked threatening against City, striking the post. He could cause Leeds a few problems.
  • Yeremy Pino
Yeremy Pino has great agility, and he’s found his feet after joining from Villarreal over the summer. The 23-year-old has netted twice in his past five league games, and there is more to come from him.

Crystal Palace Team News

Palace have a few long-term absentees on the bench, including Cheick Doucoure and Daniel Munoz Mejia, but they aren’t expected to be considered for selection.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Leeds United (3-5-2)

Perri; Rodon, Bijol, Struijk, Bogle, Tanaka, Ampadu, Stach, Gudmundsson, Calvert-Lewin, Okafor

  2. Palace (3-4-2-1)

Henderson, Richards, Lacroix, Guéhi, Clyne, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell, Sarr, Pino, Mateta

Suggested Bets

Premier League sportsbooks have a full slate of pre-match odds, and here are some football betting tips to bear in mind.

  1. Leeds to Win Either Half: Leeds have looked good value for money lately, and they have won two of their past three home encounters with Palace, so the win either half line is worth exploiting. (10/11 with William Hill)

  2. Palace to Have the Most Corners: The Eagles have shaded the corner count in their past three league clashes with Leeds, so this is worth exploring further. (13/10 with Midnite)

  3. Both Teams to Score (Yes): Although there was a goalless draw in 2022, this game has usually provided a flurry of goals, and both sides could fulfil this line. (4/5 with Unibet)

Value Bets

  1. Anytime Goalscorer – Dominic Calvert-Lewin: Given his rich vein of form, Calvert-Lewin could be a menace and find the target once again. (21/10 with Leovegas)

  2. Leeds to Win & BTTS: Having previously suggested the BTTS line, you could combine that with Leeds to win, and given their recent record against Leeds, it doesn’t seem too fanciful (9/2 with Fitzdares)

  3. Palace to Be Ahead After 30 minutes: The minute markets are intriguing, and Palace will want a repeat of their last performance away to Leeds. Although they trailed after 30 minutes that day, there is no reason to suggest they couldn’t storm into the lead after the half-hour mark (3/1 with QuinnBet)

Prediction: Leeds to Win & BTTS

Leeds have started to show over the past couple of weeks that they belong in the Premier League, and they won’t roll over easily. Despite being on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline two years ago, the two league clashes before that at Elland Road resulted in wins for Farke’s men. While Palace have emerged victorious in their last two league games on the road, they could come up short against Leeds, who will be fired up for this one.
