Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Spain sensation Víctor Muñoz as Eddie Howe looks to land one of European football's hottest young talents, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

SportsBoom understands the Magpies have intensified talks with Osasuna over a deal for the 22-year-old winger, who has rocketed from Spain's third tier to the World Cup stage in less than two years.

Munoz is currently part of Spain's World Cup squad in America after a stunning breakthrough campaign in La Liga that established him as one of the fastest-rising talents in European football.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid youngster is regarded as a future superstar and has attracted interest from a host of leading clubs across the continent.

But Newcastle are determined to win the race for his signature as they continue reshaping their squad following a period of major change at St James' Park.

Munoz is under contract with Osasuna until 2030 after only joining the Spanish club in 2025.

OFFERS

However, SportsBoom understands Osasuna would be prepared to listen to offers if their valuation is met, with a fee in the region of £30million to £40million believed to be under discussion.

The Magpies see the Spain international as the ideal replacement for Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona in a £75million deal, while the club are also preparing for the possibility of further departures this summer.

Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali continues to attract interest from several European heavyweights, as well as some Premier League rivals, and Newcastle's recruitment team is keen to ensure they remain ahead of the curve.

The club's transfer budget was already significantly boosted by the British-record £128million sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer, giving Howe considerable funds to reinvest in the squad.

And Munoz has emerged as one of the manager's top targets. His rise has been nothing short of remarkable.

Less than two years ago, Munoz was playing third-tier football for Real Madrid Castilla and looking to force his way into the senior game.

METEORIC

Since then, he has enjoyed a meteoric ascent, starring for Osasuna during the 2025-26 campaign before earning his first senior Spain call-up and securing a place in the national team's World Cup squad.

His pace, dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders have made him one of the most exciting young attackers in Spanish football.

Real Madrid retain a buyback option on the winger following his departure from the Bernabeu.

However, the Spanish giants are believed to have decided against activating the clause, clearing the way for Newcastle to pursue a deal.

Newcastle believe Munoz can become the face of their next generation after a disappointing season in which they struggled to fully recover from the loss of Isak.

The club are increasingly targeting a younger profile of player with the potential to develop into elite-level performers, and Munoz fits that model perfectly.

If Newcastle can strike an agreement with Osasuna, they will feel they have secured one of Europe's brightest young stars before his value climbs even higher.

Newcastle’s interest in Víctor Muñoz looks serious enough to keep this one live, but a deal will hinge on Osasuna’s valuation and rival European interest. If talks progress, expect the market to react quickly.
