Exclusive: Harry Wilson Close to Long-Term Fulham Deal After Being Named Wales Captain

Fulham is close to finalizing a new long-term contract with Wales forward Harry Wilson after talks stalled earlier this year. He is set to stay with the Premier League side despite previous speculation of a move to Leeds United. Wilson, now a regular starter for Fulham, will also captain Wales for the first time in a World Cup qualifying match.

Fulham are close to agreeing a new deal with Wales international forward Harry Wilson after long-term contracts talks stalled earlier this year, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Cottagers have been keen to secure Wilson’s services for another three years, but the player and club have been not yet been able to agree the finer details of a deal.

But our sources have learnt that Wilson, who has just been made captain of Wales for the first time in his career, and the Premier League side are now within touching distance of a deal being done.

In June, Wilson had his original four-year deal extended by a further year until 2026, with the Cottagers taking up of the built-in option of a further year in his contract.

However, Wilson and the club have now agreed the intention to agree a long-term deal, whether that be three or four years.

“The option was just in case a deal doesn't get done,” revealed Wilson in an interview earlier this year.

“My main option would be to sign a new deal at Fulham and hopefully we can get to an agreement on that."

"It is a great club in the Premier League, which is where I want to play my football, and I'm really happy here."

"I had a lot of loans earlier in my career - they were great for me. I wasn't going to get the minutes I wanted at Liverpool so the loans really helped me in my development."

"But then I got to a point in my personal life where I wanted somewhere to settle with the family and I've found that at Fulham."

Wilson, now in his fourth season at Craven Cottage, had been heavily-linked with a move to Premier League rivals Leeds United and a deal to move to Yorkshire fell through on transfer deadline day.

Since then Wilson has established himself as a regular starter for Marco Silva’s side, starting eight of the ten top-flight fixtures he has been selected for.

And this week the 28-year-old, capped 66 times by Wales, discovered he will captain his country for the first time in tonight’s World Cup qualifying clash with North Macedonia at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“It's up to me to make sure I lead us in the right way and make sure we get that win,” said Wilson ahead of the match.

Leeds were reportedly set to reignite their interest in the Welsh winger in January, but with a new deal on the table, a move now looks unlikely, while Everton had also shown interest.
