Derby County are desperate to tie down keeper Jacob Widell Zetterström to a new deal with Bournemouth interested in the stopper, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Cherries signed Fraser Forster on a six-month deal as cover after Will Dennis sustained an injury earlier this month.
But our sources have been told the south coast club are closely monitoring Zetterstorm’s progress at the Rams this season as they look to sign a younger keeper in the summer.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been impressed by the Swedish international this season and will look to pounce come the end of the season.
The Rams’ stopper is currently contracted to the club until the end of next season, but our sources understand County chiefs want to act fast amid sustained interest in the Swedish stopper.
Our sources have been told there are suitors domestically and abroad for the impressive 27-year-old.
There was Premier League interest from both Nottingham Forest and Brentford in the six-foot-six stopper in the summer, although it is understood the Bees have turned attentions to strengthening other areas of their squad.
And Derby bosses are ready to offer the keeper an improved contract extension, expected to be a further two years, to remain at Pride Park as interest intensifies.
SportsBoom was first to reveal that former Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson’s loan move was set to become a permanent transfer this January.
Rising Star
Zetterstorm joined the club from Djurgardens in 2024 for an undisclosed fee and has been a revelation between the posts during his time at the club.
During his debut campaign in the Championship last term he kept nine clean sheets in 40 league games and has had five shutouts so far this season.
His form for Derby earned him a full international debut under Graham Potter earlier this season in a World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
And Rams' boss John Eustace said: "We want all the best players to stay and be part of this journey for the next two or three seasons."
