Sunderland are weighing up a move to try and sign sought-after Republic of Ireland international striker Troy Parrott, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
SportsBoom revealed in November that both Coventry City and Brentford were interested in Parrott, but neither move materialised, with Sunderland now entering the race for the forward
Now the bright lights of the Premier League could beckon with the Black Cats mulled over a move now the transfer window has re-opened.
Sunderland have impressed in their first season back in the top-flight, and ambitious boss Regis Le Bris is determined to bolster his side’s attacking power as they look to build on a fine season so far, one which sees them going well in a commendable eighth place after 20 games.
However, the Black Cats do not have a single player in the top 20 scorers in the division, with Wilson Isidor their top scorer with four goals.
Frenchman Isidor started the season in fine fettle but has not scored in his last ten games, a stat not lost on his compatriot Le Bris.
PROVEN GOALSCORER
And our sources have learnt that Parrott is a young, proven goalscorer, who fits the bill.
The former Tottenham Hotspur marksman has dazzled for Dutch side AZ in the Eredivisie, scoring nine goals in 11 league games so far this campaign – and an impressive 16 in 22 matches in all competitions for the club.
In all Parrott has scored 36 goals in 69 games for AZ, having initially joined the club on loan during the 2023-24 season.
Prior to that the Dubliner played just twice for Spurs and spent most of his time out on loan at clubs including Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End.
