Exclusive: Burnley Lead Premier League Chase for Want-Away Norwich Striker Josh Sargent

Premier League club Burnley is interested in signing striker Josh Sargent from Norwich City, who is pushing for a move before the World Cup. Despite interest from other clubs and an MLS bid, Norwich is standing firm on not selling Sargent this window. Sargent's future with the club is uncertain after he made himself unavailable for a game due to transfer issues.

Burnley are among a number of Premier League clubs ready to test Norwich City’s resolve over want away striker Josh Sargent, SportsBoom can reveal, with the striker’s situation already being closely followed by fans scanning the best sign up offers ahead of a potentially busy summer transfer window.

Rumours revolving around the USA star’s future at Carrow Road are rife every window with his goalscoring record in the Championship in recent years.

But the 25-year-old is now actively pushing for a move before this summer’s World Cup.

Burnley are desperate to add firepower to their relegation dogfight with Sargent high up on their list of names, alongside Hearts’ Claudio Braga, which SportsBoom exclusively revealed earlier this month.

Our sources have been told that two other unnamed top-flight sides also have Sargent on their radar after developments in the past week.

MLS outfit Toronto FC have bid $18million for the player, but our understanding is Norwich’s stance is that Sargent is not available this window.

Burnley were previously linked with a move for Sargent last summer and even saw an £18million bid knocked back by Norwich, though a fresh offer at the same level would now likely be enough to land the USA World Cup hopeful this January.

Sargent also turned down the opportunity to move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, a deal which would have earned the Canaries £23million, substantially more than Toronto have offered so far.

Earlier this season Sporting Director Ben Knapper, said 'I can’t see a world in which that happens..' when asked about the chances of Sargent leaving in January.

A Sad End?

A firm fan favourite in Norfolk since joining the club in 2021, Sargent has netted 56 goals in 157 games for Norwich, form that has kept him firmly on the radar of supporters and analysts alike across the top 20 betting sites uk free no deposit markets tracking his next move.

He was the club’s top scorer in the Championship in the 2022/23 (13 goals) and 2023/24 (16) respectively.

But it now appears the situation could turn ugly between the player and the relegation strugglers with Sargent potentially tarnishing memories of him at the club.

Manager Philippe Clement revealed on Sunday that Sargent, who has scored seven league goals this term with Norwich languishing in 22nd, text him the night before their FA Cup clash against Walsall to make himself unavailable.

After the game, Clement revealed: “Josh sent me a message [on Saturday] evening saying he would not be available because of transfer things in his head.”

“This is obviously not something we want, and will have consequences.”

“It is something we need to speak about inside the club, but the club has made it really clear to Josh and his agent that he will not be leaving during this transfer window.”
