Exclusive: Former Hearts and Scotland Star John Colquhoun Part of Consortium Bidding for Sheffield Wednesday
Former footballer John Colquhoun and professional poker player James Bord are part of a consortium aiming to take over financially struggling Sheffield Wednesday. Bord has been granted preferred bidder status but faces challenges meeting the £30m price tag. Colquhoun, now a football agent, is among investors supporting Bord. The club is at risk of relegation and faces uncertainties under new ownership.

John Colquhoun, the former Celtic, Hearts and Scotland centre-forward turned football agent, is a leading member of the consortium attempting to take charge of Sheffield Wednesday, SportsBoom can exclusivley reveal.
James Bord, the professional American poker player who also holds a stake in Dunfermiline, has seized pole position in the race to purchase The Owls after being granted preferred bidder status by administrators Begbies Traynor.
However, in order to meet the £30m asking price being demanded in order to satisfy outstanding debts following the collapse of Dejphon Chansiri’s regime, Bord is being backed by an eclectic group of investors which, according to sources, includes Colquhoun.
BT, who were handed the responsibility of overseeing Wednesday’s day-to-day affairs when Chansiri was forced to relinquish control, have also been tasked with identifying the person or persons best placed to move the financially stricken club forward.
As SportsBoom exclusively revealed earlier this year, BT employee and lifelong Wednesday supporter Kris Wigfield is no longer the public face of the company’s search for the Thai’s replacement.
But, together with his colleagues, he was involved in the discussions which eventually saw them grant Bord exclusive rights to negotiate a purchase, ahead of the likes of Dave Richards, a Sheffield born but US based tech entrepreneur and UK retail tycoon Mike Ashley.
Tough Task
With Henrik Pedersen’s side almost certain to be relegated after being hit with two points deductions by the English Football League, neither believed BT’s valuation represented value for money given the funds required to overhaul both the playing squad and infrastructure of a club destined to be competing in League One next term.
However, Richards and Ashley anticipate re-entering the race should Bord’s grouping fail to satisfy the EFL of their suitability to run one of England’s most famous sporting names.
Colquhoun, aged 62, represented the likes of Theo Walcott and Phil Jones before selling his agency to pursue other ventures in areas such as football and golf. He has also acted as a pundit in the Scottish media, as well as being granted a prominent honorary position with a university north of the border.
Bord previously acted as a recruitment advisor to The Owls’ arch rivals Sheffield United, although his AI driven decisions proved controversial at Bramall Lane.
