Ismaëlo Ganiou has landed right at the centre of this summer's most competitive centre-back transfer race.

The 21-year-old French and Burkinabé defender, currently at RC Lens, is under active pursuit from Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to SportsBoom, talks have begun between the three clubs and Lens have set their price clearly. The asking figure sits at approximately €35-40 million. Lens will not budge easily.

Ganiou registered 3 goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances last season and was a key figure in Lens's defensive organisation as the club finished second in the table.

He joined Lens in July 2025, and his contract runs until 2028.

Lens's asking price of €35-40 million is almost double that figure. The club are not moving from that stance. Their belief in Ganiou's development ceiling makes that valuation entirely defensible.

Crystal Palace: The Pierre Sage Factor

Crystal Palace hold the most intriguing card in this race.

The club are understood to be keen on appointing Pierre Sage as their new head coach. That development could directly accelerate a move for Ganiou.

Sage previously worked with the defender at Lens. Playing under a familiar manager is one of the most powerful factors that shape a young player's decision. It is widely believed that Ganiou could be open to reuniting with Sage.

According to sources close to SportsBoom, Palace have identified defensive reinforcement as a priority objective ahead of their UEFA Europa League campaign.

Ganiou sits right at the heart of that plan. The Sage connection, combined with the European platform, makes Crystal Palace the most strategically positioned suitor in this race.

Tottenham: The Romero Replacement

Tottenham's interest in Ganiou is directly linked to Cristian Romero's future

Developments suggesting Romero's departure have forced Spurs to search urgently for a defensive solution.

Ganiou has emerged as one of the leading candidates to fill that void. Already proven in Ligue 1, and with a long-term ceiling that is clearly visible, this is an investment that addresses both Spurs' immediate need and their future planning.

Tottenham's financial capacity is sufficient to meet the €35-40 million asking price.

But competing for the same player as Crystal Palace complicates the negotiation process. Two English clubs fighting over one target only strengthens Lens's hand further.

PSG: Enrique's Green Light

Paris Saint-Germain's entry into this race takes the story to a completely different level.

Luis Enrique is understood to have approved Ganiou's profile, and the French defender features in PSG's defensive planning. PSG's financial power is beyond question. Of all the clubs in this race, they are most comfortably positioned to meet a €40 million fee.

But the decisive factor for Ganiou will be the choice between playing for his country's biggest club and building a career abroad.

SportsBoom can exclusively reveal that no formal bids have been submitted to Lens at this stage.

Talks have started, but no concrete offer has landed yet. Lens are comfortable in that position. 3 major clubs competing for the same player pushes the price upward, and the club knows it.

Ganiou is shaping up as one of this summer's most exciting young centre-back transfer stories.

Palace feels best placed in this race, largely due to Pierre Sage’s prior relationship with Ganiou, which could prove decisive in a tight three-way battle. Spurs’ need is clearer, PSG’s finances are stronger, but familiarity and guaranteed minutes may tilt it towards Selhurst Park. Early lean: Crystal Palace, though the odds still feel open enough to interest the market.
