Cambridge United are interested in a loan move for Gillingham’s Elliott Nevitt, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Nevitt has scored just two league goals for the Gills this term, but Neil Harris is a huge admirer of the player and wants to add him to the U’s promotion push.
Harris was impressed by the 29-year-old’s performance against his side on Boxing Day and our sources understand he has approached his former club over the availability of the striker.
The U’s are desperate to return to League One at the first attempt after they were relegated last season.
Harris’ charges are currently sat in sixth place, just two points off the automatic promotion places, having not lost in the league for three months.
Despite the club’s fine form, going unbeaten in 11 league outings, Harris is open about his desire to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season with promotion in their sights.
When asked about potential incomings, he said: “We’re confident we’re going to add and we’re confident that something is going to happen very, very quickly.”
“We’re getting to the stage now where you can actually have a sensible conversation with agents and clubs – we’re moving in the right direction with one or two.”
In other League Two news, Brighton are reportedly ready to splash £5m on Charlton’s 19-year-old striker Micah Mbick, who has netted 8 goals in 23 games while on loan at Colchester.
New Challenge
Nevitt signed for Gillingham in the summer of 2024 after he rejected a new contract at Crewe Alexandra.
Since making the move to Priestfield, Nevitt has scored six goals in 58 league appearances for Gareth Ainsworth’s outfit.
During his two-season stint at Crewe, Nevitt failed to score in 21 league games in his first campaign but bagged an impressive 16 league goals the following campaign which earned him a number of suitors before deciding to join Gillingham 18 months ago.
Before joining Crewe, he played two seasons for Tranmere Rovers, who plucked him out of non-league obscurity.
