QPR are preparing a £1million bid for highly-wanted Dundee defender Luke Graham, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Hoops are just one of a handful of club’s chasing the impressive centre-back, who has impressed after being catapulted into the first team at Dens Park this season.
Fellow Championship club Portsmouth have seen a £600,000 bid already rejected by the Scottish side.
Our sources understand the south coast club are considering their options regarding an improved bid.
SportsBoom have been told QPR will be tabling a seven-figure bid in the coming days for the talented 21-year-old.
But they will face competition from a host of clubs in the Championship and north of the border for Graham’s signature.
Sheffield United have been linked with a move in recent days as interest intensifies in one of the brightest prospects in Scottish football.
But our sources understand Aberdeen and QPR are the two set to battle it out for the player with Pompey contemplating their position after their initial offer was rebuffed.
SportsBoom sources also revealed last week that QPR have shown interest in Bristol City goalkeeper Max O’Leary.
Shining Starlet
Graham, who has been capped at Scotland U21 level, is contracted at Dundee until the summer of 2027 and sources close to the club have been told SportsBoom that it would take an enticing offer for them to part company with the academy product.
The club are resigned to the fact they will eventually lose the player, but are happy to wait until the end of the season if their valuation, which is over £1million, is not met this window.
Boss Steven Pressley oversaw the progression of England star Jarrad Branthwaite whilst at Carlisle United.
And on Graham, he said: “I think that when I look around at centre-backs, young centre-backs, he's one of the top ones out there.”
“I was lucky that I brought through at Carlisle young Jarrad Branthwaite. He's now an England international, so I've seen first-hand his level. I think Luke Graham looks very comparable to that.”
“I think he's an outstanding young player with a huge future. It would take a really prized offer to get us to sell the player. He's under contract, and also beyond that there's the protection of the compensation.”
Editor's Insight
Dundee are in a strategic stalemate with Graham. As Portsmouth has already rejected a bid of £600k and QPR is allegedly about to make a seven-figure offer, the Dark Blues need to determine whether it is time to cash in on the profit or wait until a bidding war occurs. This is a typical case of whether to cash in now or to let it ride; the certainty of the £1m today is a sure thing, but with Celtic and Rangers also circling, the potential payout in the summer window could be significantly more.
