Coventry City are weighing up a move for free-agent winger Adama Traoré as they look to bolster their squad with proven Premier League quality ahead of their return to the top flight, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The newly-promoted Sky Blues are exploring several options this summer, but Traoré has emerged as one of the standout names on their radar following his release by West Ham United.

Coventry chiefs believe the former Spain international could be the perfect fit as they prepare for their first season back among English football's elite, with the 30-year-old bringing a wealth of experience, pace and know-how to a side determined to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Adama Traoré made just nine appearances for the Hammers last season after arriving in East London, but his limited game time has done little to diminish his reputation as one of the Premier League's most explosive attacking players.

The powerful winger boasts an impressive record built across spells with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Fulham and West Ham, accumulating more than 452 senior appearances during a distinguished professional career.

FEARED

His most successful period came at Wolves, where he became one of the division's most feared wide men.

Traoré made more than 157 Premier League appearances for Wanderers, tormenting defenders with his blistering pace, strength and ability to turn a game in an instant.

He later added a further 68 top-flight appearances for Fulham and remains a player with a proven track record in what many regard as the toughest league in world football.

Coventry are understood to believe that pedigree could prove invaluable during what promises to be a challenging campaign.

The club are keen to add players who know exactly what is required to survive and thrive in the Premier League, and Traoré ticks plenty of boxes.

The winger's availability on a free transfer has also alerted several rival clubs across England and abroad.

Coventry have also been linked with Shakhtar Donetsk winger Prosper Obah as they continue to explore attacking options this summer.

PROPOSITION

With no transfer fee required, Traoré represents an attractive proposition for sides seeking Premier League experience without a major outlay, and Coventry are unlikely to have the field to themselves if they decide to press ahead with their interest.

Despite his departure from West Ham, Traoré is understood to be keen to continue his long-standing association with the Premier League rather than seek a move overseas.

That stance could hand Coventry encouragement as they assess whether to make their move.

The eight-cap Spain international still believes he has plenty to offer at the highest level, while the Sky Blues see a player whose pace, power and vast experience could be crucial in their bid to establish themselves back in the Premier League.

With clubs circling and Traoré weighing up his next challenge, Coventry know they may need to move quickly if they are to land one of the most experienced free agents on the market.

Coventry would be taking a calculated gamble here, but one with clear upside if Traoré stays fit and motivated. His Premier League experience could prove valuable in a survival battle, though consistency has been an issue. Worth a small speculative punt in the market given the free transfer angle.
