SportsBoom can exclusively reveal Celtic are preparing to step up their pursuit of Huddersfield Town sensation Cameron Ashia by tabling a move for the exciting young midfielder after his breakout campaign in League One.

The Scottish Premiership champions have been closely tracking the 21-year-old’s progress throughout the season and now appear ready to test the Terriers' resolve as they look to secure one of the most highly-rated emerging talents outside the top two divisions.

Ashia has sparkled for Huddersfiled this term, establishing himself as one of the brightest young stars in the division and coming agonisingly close to helping the Yorkshire club reach the promotion play-offs.

Despite missing out on extending their season, Ashia’s stock has soared after a campaign which saw him announce himself as a player with a huge future ahead of him.

The gifted midfielder scored six goals in 31 appearances and became a driving force in Huddersfield’s engine room, combining energy, creativity and composure well beyond his years.

REMARKABLE RISE

His impact was recognised recently when he scooped the Antoni Memorial Academy Player of the Year award, another landmark moment in a remarkable rise.

Ashia only arrived at Huddersfield in the summer of 2024 and has gone from strength-to-strength since making the move to Yorkshire.

Those inside the club have been hugely impressed by both his performances and attitude, with Academy Director Jon Worthington recently highlighting the qualities behind his rapid development.

“This season has been a massive opportunity for Cameron to make an impact in the First Team, and we are really proud to see how he has developed since joining the Club a couple of years ago, and see the progression that he has made throughout the 2025/26 campaign,” Worthington said.

“His dedication and commitment to improve has remained at a consistent and high level since his arrival, and that is something that is valued both at the Academy and at the Club as a whole."

“Cameron travelled with the First Team to Austria and has embraced every opportunity given to him.”

Ashia's current contract runs until June 2027, with Huddersfield understood to be keen to reward his emergence with improved terms and an extension to his existing deal.

GROWING FIGHT

But the Yorkshire outfit are aware they could face a growing fight to keep hold of him, with Celtic and a number of other clubs believed to have tracked his rapid progress throughout the season.

Now his development has placed him firmly on Celtic’s radar, with the Scottish champions viewing him as a potential bargain addition and a genuine star for the future capable of thriving north of the border.

The Parkhead club’s recruitment department has carried out extensive work on the midfielder and believes his ceiling is extremely high.

Celtic’s managerial situation still carries uncertainty, with Martin O'Neill’s long-term future yet to be fully resolved, but sources suggest the interest in Ashia stretches beyond whoever occupies the dugout.

The club hierarchy are understood to be firmly behind the move and see him as exactly the type of young talent they want to continue building around.

With his value rising by the week and admirers beginning to circle, Huddersfield could soon face a major battle to keep hold of their emerging midfield jewel.

If Celtic firm up their interest in Cameron Ashia, it would be hard for the midfielder to turn down the move. European football, a winning environment and the chance to join a historic club like Celtic would likely outweigh Championship interest from sides such as Sheffield United and Birmingham City.
