Highly-rated Spanish striker Chelsea FC youngster Marc Guiu looks increasingly likely to move on this summer as the club continue trimming their bloated squad following BlueCo’s lavish spending since taking over at Stamford Bridge. With more than £2 billion spent on transfers in recent years, Chelsea are expected to cash in on several fringe players during the upcoming window.

Sources close to SportsBoom understand newly-promoted Coventry City are among the clubs tracking Guiu, while a number of sides in La Liga are also monitoring the young forward’s situation.

A Spanish Striker at a Crossroads

Guiu draws the profile of a modern number nine with his physical presence and clinical finishing inside the box. However, securing regular minutes at a club like Chelsea, where competition is at an elite level, is becoming more difficult by the day.

Joining a project where he can prove himself and feature regularly in the starting XI, Guiu is very open to embarking on an adventure that will increase his match fitness and experience, rather than a transfer where he would simply wait on the bench.

While the Blues have faith in the player’s potential, they are forced to sanction some departures due to the current financial landscape and squad bloat.

The club has whispered to the market through agents that they are ready to listen to offers in the €20-25 million range for Guiu.

A Broad Shortlist from Coventry to Sevilla

The most concrete interest for Guiu currently stems from three different directions. Candidates are quite hungry in this process, which is described as a "hot pursuit" in the transfer market.

Newly promoted Coventry City, aiming for permanency in the Premier League, wants to bolster their attacking line with a young and dynamic name. The idea of Guiu developing his Premier League experience not in a lower division, but directly in the arena of giants with increased playing time, excites the Coventry board.

Additionally, the possibility of Guiu returning to his homeland is always on the table. Real Sociedad and Sevilla, in particular, are among the leading clubs closely monitoring the player’s situation.

Spanish clubs are preparing to submit an offer to Chelsea based on a loan-with-an-option-to-buy formula. This scenario could both shorten the player’s adaptation period and minimize financial risks for the clubs.

Right Figure, Right Formula

The Chelsea management may not act like a stubborn seller at the table this time. The club needs to create significant wage bill flexibility and generate cash flow for its new targets in the summer window.

Instead of a direct sale, Chelsea is also evaluating loan deals with options where they can retain a share of the player’s future value.

However, a cash bid of €20-25 million could shift the balance and lead to a green light for a permanent move. The London side must act within the framework of the Premier League’s strict Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Chelsea’s €20-25 million valuation may prove too much of a gamble for Coventry given Marc Guiu’s lack of Premier League experience, with the newly-promoted side more likely to prioritise proven pedigree. A return to Spain could offer the striker the smartest route for regular football and development.
