New Irish hero Troy Parrott is wanted by Premier League-chasing Coventry City, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old striker etched his named into Republic of Ireland folklore on Sunday as he kept his nation’s World Cup dream alive with a stunning hat-trick.

But, despite his latest bout of brilliance, our sources understand Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard has been an admirer of the former Tottenham Hotspur marksman for some time and would welcome him joining his side at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Parrott is expected to be viewed as a natural successor to current Championship top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose impressive form has sparked strong January interest from Premier League outfit Leeds United.

Dubliner Parrott guided the Republic to a famous 3-2 comeback win over Hungary with virtually the last kick of the game.

Victory secured safe passage through to the World Cup play-offs as the Republic gun to get to the competition proper for the first time since 2002.

Parrott and his teammates knew nothing less than a victory would guarantee qualification to the final phase of qualifying, and Parrott duly delivered again having bagged a fine brace in his country’s impressive 2-0 win over Portugal three days earlier.

It was Roy of the Rovers-dream football for the former Tottenham Hotspur ace, now plying his trade in Holland to get his career back on track.

ADMIRERS

Without doubt it was the best week of Parrott’s career, but the striker has previously won many admirers for his talents, and his five-star goal display has righty thrust him into the limelight.

Parrott came through the academy at his hometown club Belvedere before joining Spurs’ academy.

But the striker played just two Premier League games for the club and was shipped out on loan Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston North End and Dutch side Excelsior to some much-needed regular football.

Thought, it was only at Excelsior where he finally started to find his scoring boots, betting ten goals in 25 league games.

His successful loan spell led to Dutch rivals AZ Alkmaar signing him in a £6.7million deal, going on to score 14 goals in 20 games in his first season at the club.

This season Parrott has already scored six goals in just seven league games, with Coventry having been monitoring his progress and impressive goalscoring exploits for some time.
