Barrow will reignite their interest in Bradford City’s Tyler Smith, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Bluebirds’ boss Andy Whing is desperate to add bodies to his squad after an early-season injury crisis.

Striker Rhys Healy went down on Tuesday night and our sources have been told Whing is desperate to act quickly.

Whing is a huge admirer of the player having worked closely with him last season.

Smith has previously spent two spells on loan at Barrow, most recently at the backend of last season where he scored five goals in 21 appearances for the club.

The 26-year-old hitman, who came through the ranks at Sheffield United, is understood to have turned down a return to Holker Street earlier this summer as he evaluated his options before making a decision on his future.

But it is believed that Whing is ready to offer the striker, who has also spent time at Hull City and Oxford United, an improved offer amid his unfortunate number of crises.

The player is hungry for regular first-team football and will be offered that at Holker Street.

It is understood Smith was holding out for a League One offer, with a number of other League Two clubs keen to secure his services before the window closes.

Earlier in the window, Graham Alexander gave an honest verdict on Smith's future at Bradford.

“The choice is down to them [Smith and Adam Wilson]. They can stay and compete for a place in the team but I’ve explained to them the realities about the whole situation," he told the media.

“They couldn’t get in the team last year and we’ve been successful. We’ve brought in new players again, so it will be difficult for them.”
