Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City have both expressed an interest in signing former Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Former Terriers’ skipper Hogg has been a free agent since the end of June when the Yorkshire outfit decided to release him after 12 years of loyal service.

But our sources understand the 36-year-old hopes to have at least one more season as a player before potentially venturing into a coaching role.

Hogg was a key player in the Terriers’ side which celebrated a famous promotion to the Premier League in 2017.

The former Aston Villa and Watford man played two seasons in the top-flight for the Terriers before they were relegated back to the Championship.

And he enjoyed a further five more seasons with the club in the Championship before his release earlier this year.

The Owls and Bantams are both looking to strengthen their respective squads and Hogg, who has bags of Championship experience, could prove to be an astute signing.

He was a big character at the John Smith’s Stadium, on and off the pitch, and a confident leader.

He was the last player from the Premier League promotion side to leave the club and drew glowing praise this summer after it was announced he would be leaving.

TERRIERS LEGEND

"A captain, legend and enduring figure for all associated with the club,” said Huddersfield chairman Kevin Nagle, earlier this year.

“This is an emotional moment for us all as we show our love and sincere gratitude for a player who has embodied everything it is to represent Huddersfield Town.”

Hogg, who started with Villa, was one of 18 players released by the Terriers at the end of last season.

“It does really feel like I joined the club as a boy and then left as a man,” reflected Hogg following his departure.

“When I first joined the club I was a bit hot-headed, but I’ve matured a lot since then."

“Looking back the 2016-17 season it was life-changing, it was a special season.”

Hogg played 365 games for the Terries and has 480 career appearances across his distinguished career.
