Exclusive: Bristol City Determined to Secure New Deal for Defensive Star Zak Vyner

Bristol City are eager to secure Zak Vyner to a new deal as the defender attracts interest from multiple clubs. Vyner, a product of the club's youth system, has been a key player for the Robins and is into the final year of his contract. This season has seen him make a strong start, contributing to the team's victories.

Bristol City are desperate to tie Zak Vyner down to a new deal, SportsBoom sources can exclusively reveal.

The talismanic defender is at the peak of his powers and played every competitive minute for the Robins last season during their run to the play-offs.

And it is no wonder a number of suitors are interested in signing the robust centre-back this summer.

Vyner is into the last year of his contract at Ashton Gate, where he came through the youth ranks and has been his home for over two decades.

City chiefs turned down a £1million bid from Championship rivals Derby County last month as John Eustace came calling for the player, a figure which was well below the club’s valuation.

Belgian top flight club K.A.A Gent were also interested in the academy graduate.

It is not the first time clubs have circled for the player with Luton Town, Southampton and Rangers all interested in the 2023/24 season, which prompted his last contract extension.

If the two parties fail to agree terms over a new deal then this window presents the last opportunity for the club to cash in, with the player able to sign a pre-contract with a new club in January ahead of leaving for free next summer.

The 28-year-old went on four separate loan moves, Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United and Aberdeen, before making himself a regular for City.

Vyner, who has been in the Kenya international set up, was handed his Robins’ debut in 2016 by Lee Johnson and became a permanent fixture in the side during the 2020/21 campaign.

The defender has made 236 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored four goals during his time at Ashton Gate.

Vyner has started the season strongly with the club securing a huge 4-1 opening-day victory at Sheffield United, in a battle of two of last season’s play-off casualties, and a 2-0 victory over MK Dons in the EFL Cup.
