Newcastle Current Form – WLWLW

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are a team with undeniably attacking quality, but are still searching for that consistency to deliver on their immense promise this season. The Magpies are known for a high-energy, pressing style, which has seen them dominate teams, especially in front of their fervent crowd at St James’ Park.

Despite the inconsistencies, Newcastle have shown and reminded people of how good a team they are in the last five games. An eye-catching victory over Athletic Club in the Champions League was followed by a shock defeat to Brentford, then they showed their confidence at home in a victory over Man City but again fell to defeat away to Marseille in the Champions League.

The Magpies have struggled to replicate the same form they have at home on their travels but finally ended that winless away streak with a commanding victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. After registering their first away victory of the season, Tottenham was the next challenge, and now they gear up to take on Burnley, a fixture they have won four of the last five meetings.

Key Players To Watch

  • Bruno Guimaraes: Guimaraes is an intelligent and hard-working midfielder who is exceptional at both winning the ball and progressing it forward. He knows how to exploit space with clever movement, has an exceptional passing range that allows him to dictate the tempo of the game, and to initiate attacks from deep. He is the heart of the midfield and the glue that holds everything together.
  • Nick Woltemade: Woltemade has proven his quality and continues to make his presence felt. He is not the fanciest centre forward you will see, but he has a touch of everything in his game, making him a constant threat. Despite his size, he’s skilful, comfortable with the ball at his feet, and can score goals from various positions.
  • Anthony Gordon: Gordon has fitted in perfectly with the way Eddie Howe wants to play, especially with their emphasis on attacking down the flanks. His energy and relentless work rate allow him to undo defences in one-on-one situations while getting into attacking areas where he can create scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Newcastle Team News

Will Osula is out in the recovery room with an ankle injury, and Yoanne Wissa is still far from making his debut as he continues to fight back from his knee injury.

Burnley Current Form – WLLLL

Burnley find themselves in a very tough position after being dragged into the relegation zone. Under Scott Parker, they look to play a more modern, possession-based game than in previous Premier League stints but have struggled to convert this into results and have been leaky defensively. They are conceding too many goals and not scoring enough.

Coming into this fixture, the last five games have demonstrated the recent struggles they have experienced. After a much-needed victory against Wolves, the Clarets have looked like they have run out of ideas to secure positive results, particularly away from home.

They have recorded four consecutive defeats against league leaders Arsenal, West Ham, title contenders Chelsea, and Brentford, respectively. The pressure is mounting, and the longer this slump continues, it will be increasingly difficult to climb out of the relegation zone. Crystal Palace provided another tough challenge, and a quick reset will be extremely important if they aim to turn their fortunes around.

Key Players To Watch

  • Zian Flemming: Flemming is a versatile attacking player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, with tight control, clean footwork, and vision to spot teammates making runs into the final third. He has a strong presence in the box and has shown a keen eye for goal, with the ability to shoot with both feet. Furthermore, all of his goals have come away from home and will be called upon once again in this match.
  • Jaidon Anthony: Anthony is a major threat on the ball, thrives in advanced areas, and contributes decisively in attack. He possesses skilful dribbling, with the ability to pick out a pass. His constant attacking mindset has seen him put defenders under pressure, and with the finishing ability he has in his locker, the Clarets will hope he can set the tone and get himself on the scoresheet.
  • Josh Cullen: Cullen is the modern defensive midfielder known for his excellent passing range, defensive intensity, and mentality. His tenacity gets the team motivated both on and off the ball. He has been a key player for Burnley due to his ability to build up play from the back with forward-thinking passes and tactical intelligence to break up opposition attacks.

Burnley Team News

Jordan Beyer is recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected back early next year. Connor Roberts has suffered a setback and is expected to sit out for a few more months with a strain. Zeki Amdouni is back on the grass but is still far from a return after sustaining an ACL injury in August.

Prediction: Newcastle to Win

Newcastle come into this fixture as favourites to win, especially at St James’ Park. Burnley find themselves under pressure and have won just a single game on the road this season. With a poor away record and defence, expect the Magpies to take control and secure the victory.
