FULHAM: CURRENT FORM – DWWWL

Fulham supporters are furious with their owners doing the bare minimum that’s required to maintain their status as a Premier League club this season. Without any significant improvements to the squad, the Cottagers are seemingly destined to fight for their survival with the newly-promoted clubs.
Following a decent pre-season with consecutive wins over Nottingham Forest (3-1), Al-Ittihad (4-2), and Eintracht Frankfurt (1-0), Fulham settled for a share of the spoils in a dramatic (1-1) draw away at Brighton on the opening weekend.

With seconds left to the final whistle, Rodrigo Muniz found himself at the right place at the right time, to clinch an equalizer, repaying the faith shown by his manager who brought the striker on for the final 30 minutes.

During the two previous meetings between these Portuguese tacticians last season, Fulham dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford and but were edged (0-1) in the Premier League at Craven Cottage courtesy of a Lisandro Martinez goal.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Rodrigo Muniz: The Brazilian striker will be aiming to better last campaign’s Premier League contribution of eight goals. With his uncanny ability to poach goals from the slightest of half chances, Muniz is the biggest threat to Manchester United’s goalkeeper that seems uncomfortable during set-piece situations.
  • Joachim Andersen: One of the most underrated ball-playing central defenders in the Premier League, Andersen has brilliant crossing ability. However, his defensive prowess will be put to the test, especially during aerial duels with striker Benjamin Sesko possibly making his first start for Manchester United after making a cameo appearance off the bench last weekend.
  • Kenny Tete: The right-back was sensational in limiting the threat of Kaoru Mitoma in the clash against Brighton. Tete will have his hands full against his Brazilian compatriot Matheus Cunha as well as Patrick Dorgu along his flank.

FULHAM TEAM NEWS

Defender Antonee Robinson underwent surgery to his right knee at the end of last season. Crucial to the way manager Marco Silva wants to play, Robinson leaves massive shoes to fill. Claiming 10 Premier League assists last campaign and continually charging into the opposition’s half to deliver dangerous crosses, Robinson will be sorely missed.

MANCHESTER UNITED: CURRENT FORM – LWDWW

Despite tasting bitter defeat to long-time enemies Arsenal on the opening day, Manchester United generated considerable buzz amongst Premier League lovers. Ruben Amorim’s rejuvenated Red Devils seem to have put their worst season (15th-place finish) behind them after giving an excellent account of themselves against arguably one of the best defences in the league and Europe.

New arrivals Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha made their boyhood dreams come true, donning the famous red shirt on debut with a jam-packed crowd bursting with optimism following smart business during the transfer window. Mbeumo started like a house on fire with his direct approach adding sharpness to the right flank.

Meanwhile, Cunha was deployed as the striker instead of his usual number 10 slot on the left, nevertheless, showing glimpses of true Brazilian flair that got fans at Old Trafford hopeful that Manchester United could make yet another comeback but sadly it wasn’t to be.

Constant threat was created, forcing Arsenal to concentrate on their rear guard with Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta evidently gambling on playing a dangerous game of defending a one-goal cushion. The stubborn Arsenal defence were unwavering in their approach, edging out (0-1) victory thanks to goalkeeper David Raya earning the Man of the Match award despite left-back Riccardo Calafiori bungling home the winning goal following a corner.

After completing his first successful pre-season, going unbeaten against fellow Premier League rivals: Leeds United (0-0), West Ham (2-1), Bournemouth (4-1), Everton (2-2), and a solid showing against title-challengers Arsenal, Amorim has possibly turned the corner with the fruits of his labour showing signs of reawakening the sleeping giant of English football.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH:

  • Patrick Dorgu: The athletic left-footed wingback was the first player signed under manager Ruben Amorim during the 2025 January transfer window and now seems a bargain for £25million. The best left-back last season was Nuno Mendes for Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal. Dorgu has similar qualities, although the 20-year-old could become even better if he improves on his decision-making in the final third.
  • Matheus Cunha: Manchester United’s new number 10 ran riot during his last visit to Craven Cottage scoring twice and adding an assist, inspiring Wolves to an emphatic (1-4) victory. The Brazilian possesses both skill and physicality. Eric Cantona and Zinedine Zidane are fondly remembered for their goals or showboating highlights, yet still had a nasty side to them when the game required them to get stuck into physical battles. Cunha has been battle-hardened by his experiences at Atletico Madrid and Wolves and is ready for his career to skyrocket at the age of 26.
  • Bryan Mbeumo: Many players were previously signed in this exact position from other leagues, needing a season to settle into the change of pace but ultimately failed to meet the high standards of the Premier League. However, Mbeumo is a completely different beast compared to the likes of Jadon Sancho and Antony.
Seemingly playing under no visible pressure after making the switch from Brentford. Tallying 20 goals and eight Premier League assists last season, Mbeumo was signed to score goals and will eventually be deemed a success by finding the back of the net.

MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM NEWS

Commenting on goalkeeper Andre Onana being left out of the matchday squad against Arsenal, Amorim claimed, “He's not injured, he's recovered… but the other players did well during pre-season, so I have to find a balance. Next week, it will be a different story. This week, we chose these players”.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund was also omitted with various reports suggesting his services are wanted in the Italian Serie A. Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez continues recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained back in February with Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee expected to make imminent returns after suffering minor knocks in preseason.

PREDICTION: MANCHESTER UNITED TO WIN

Fulham will aim to be hard to beat on home soil but are ultimately expected to succumb to the quality Manchester United possess. The Red Devils have signed a new frontline, with the intention of returning to past glory, while Fulham on the other hand are refusing to close the gap on teams newly residing in the top half of the Premier League standings namely, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Aston Villa. Rather choosing to battle off the newly promoted clubs to keep themselves in the Premier League. Confidently back the visitors to leave Craven Cottage with maximum points.
