Manchester City vs Wolves Preview: Odds, Tips, and Prediction
Date: Saturday, January 24 Venue: Etihad Stadium Kick-off: 3pm GMT Manchester City are fading out of Arsenal’s rear view mirror, but they will look to revive their title challenge against Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, January 17. The draws have started to stacked up for Pep Guardiola’s side, but compared to the luckless Wolves, who are rooted to the bottom of the table, City’s travails are insignificant. This fixture was rather one-sided on the opening day of the season as City stormed to a 4-0 win at Molineux. Although the gulf in quality has been clear over the past few years, the Premier League has a knack of throwing up shock results. SportsBoom has visited the best betting sites for football, and located some tasty odds. These will supplement our City vs Wolves preview, and these, in turn, should help you execute your football betting strategies.

Head-to-Head Record
Premier League head-to-head records serve a purpose, and this is how recent matches between City and Wolves have unfolded.
Last Five Meetings (Premier League)
- 16/08/25: Wolves 0-4 Manchester City
- 02/05/25: Manchester City 1-0 Wolves
- 20/10/24: Wolves 1-2 Manchester City
- 04/05/24: Manchester City 5-1 Wolves
- 30/09/23: Wolves 2-1 Manchester City
Manchester City Current Form – WDDDL
Over the past few weeks, City have become the draw specialists, being held to a share of spoils in three of their past four league games. However, they were overpowered by crosstown rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
There has been an over-reliance on Erling Haaland (20 goals and counting), but Pep Guardiola rarely deviates from his deeply entrenched philosophy of playing out from the back.
The onus is on City to stretch out the title race, and they will fancy taking out bottom-placed Wolves, who have mustered just eight points.
Key Players to Watch
- Erling Haaland
Lethal would be an understatement. Haaland is in stunning form, and even when he isn’t involved in games for long periods, when he touches the ball, it usually ends up in the back of the net. He scored twice against Wolves in August, so he will be hungry for more. - Antoine Semenyo
Although he only just joined City from Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo has made an immediate impact. He’s scored in his first two games in all competitions, becoming just the second City player after Emmanuel Adebayor to achieve that feat. - Rayan Cherki
Blessed with exquisite touch and vision, Rayan Cherki has been a revelation. He was on the scoresheet when City thrashed Wolves last summer, and he’s netted six times in all competitions this term, so he’s been instrumental.
Manchester City Team News
Manchester City have no fresh injury concerns to contend with for the visit of Wolves, and there has been no further update on John Stones or Ruben Dias’s potential returns.
Wolves Current Form – LDWDD
The 3-0 win over West Ham provided a rare moment of joy for Wolves in what has been a demoralising campaign.
Defensively vulnerable, Wolves have been blunt up front, scoring just 15 times this term, which, unfortunately for the Midlands outfit, is the lowest tally in the league.
Relegation seems inevitable, but they won’t want to go down without a whimper. Wolves boss Rob Edwards may have to opt for a low block and hit on the counter, if they are going to get anything against City.
Key Players to Watch
- Hwang Hee-Chan
An experienced campaigner, Hwang Hee-Chan has been a rare bright spot for Wolves. Diligent and industrious, the South Korean recently scored in the 3-0 win over West Ham, so that should give him confidence. - Mateus Mane
An exciting young forward, Mateus Mane is a workhorse, and he’s popped up with two goals in his last two league outings. An xG (expected goals) rate of 0.54 also suggests City should be wary. - Jorgen Strand Larsen
Although he’s mainly been limited to some cameo roles, Jorgen Strand Larsen was among the goals when he bagged a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Shrewsbury in the FA Cup third round. He could look to stretch the City back line if he’s used from the off, and he scored against City last season too.
Wolves Team News
Wolves also have a relatively clean bill of health, but Teti Gomes (hamstring) is likely to be ruled out.
Predicted Line-Ups
Manchester City (4-1-4-1)
Donnarumma; Lewis, Khusanov, Alleyne, Ake, Rodri, Cherki, Foden, Semenyo, Doku, Haaland
Wolves (3-5-2)
Sa; Mosquera, Santiago Bueno, Krejci, Tchatchoua, Arias, Gomes, Mane, Hugo Bueno, Larsen, Hee-Chan
Suggested Bets
Premier League sportsbooks are brimming with odds, and we’ve shared some juicy football betting tips.
Manchester City to win to Nil: City have won the past two encounters against Wolves, and they did so by keeping a clean sheet. Guardiola’s men have been more robust at the back lately, so the win to nil line for City is worthwhile. (21/20 with William Hill)
1st Half Home Team Goals Over 1.5: If you like half betting lines, this is inviting. City have enjoyed emphatic victories over Wolves, and in the 5-1 thrashing of Wolves in May 2024, City were coasting, and leading 3-0, so that gives food for thought. (6/4 with Midnite)
Manchester City Winning Margin – 3+ Goals: Two of City’s past four league clashes with Wolves has seen them win by four goals, so a winning margin of 3+ goals is tempting. (23/20 with Unibet)
Value Bets
Antoine Semenyo to Score 2+ Goals: The multi-scorer line offers value, and given Semenyo’s electrifying start at City, the Ghana striker could grab a double. (17/4 with BetMGM)
Anytime Assist – Phil Foden: While he’s only supplied two league assists this season, Phil Foen is usually quite lively, so he could chip in with a contribution. (2/1 with Leovegas)
Over 13.5 Corners: While the last two league encounters produced 10 corners or fewer, City earned 18 corners in a game against Wolves in 2024. Over 13.5 corners across the 90 minutes is justifiable. (2/1 with Betway)
Prediction: Manchester City to Win to Nil
Despite playing catch-up in the title race, City can roar into life. When in full flow, they are a nightmare for teams to contend with.
Wolves may find that out the hard way at the Etihad this weekend. Given City have come out on top in the past two league encounters without conceding, the win to nil line is appealing, and it could be fulfilled.
