There has been an over-reliance on Erling Haaland (20 goals and counting), but Pep Guardiola rarely deviates from his deeply entrenched philosophy of playing out from the back.

The onus is on City to stretch out the title race, and they will fancy taking out bottom-placed Wolves, who have mustered just eight points.

  • Erling Haaland
    Lethal would be an understatement. Haaland is in stunning form, and even when he isn’t involved in games for long periods, when he touches the ball, it usually ends up in the back of the net. He scored twice against Wolves in August, so he will be hungry for more.
  • Antoine Semenyo
    Although he only just joined City from Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo has made an immediate impact. He’s scored in his first two games in all competitions, becoming just the second City player after Emmanuel Adebayor to achieve that feat.
  • Rayan Cherki
    Blessed with exquisite touch and vision, Rayan Cherki has been a revelation. He was on the scoresheet when City thrashed Wolves last summer, and he’s netted six times in all competitions this term, so he’s been instrumental.

Manchester City Team News

Manchester City have no fresh injury concerns to contend with for the visit of Wolves, and there has been no further update on John Stones or Ruben Dias’s potential returns.

Wolves Current Form – LDWDD

The 3-0 win over West Ham provided a rare moment of joy for Wolves in what has been a demoralising campaign.

Defensively vulnerable, Wolves have been blunt up front, scoring just 15 times this term, which, unfortunately for the Midlands outfit, is the lowest tally in the league.

Relegation seems inevitable, but they won’t want to go down without a whimper. Wolves boss Rob Edwards may have to opt for a low block and hit on the counter, if they are going to get anything against City.

  • Hwang Hee-Chan
    An experienced campaigner, Hwang Hee-Chan has been a rare bright spot for Wolves. Diligent and industrious, the South Korean recently scored in the 3-0 win over West Ham, so that should give him confidence.
  • Mateus Mane
    An exciting young forward, Mateus Mane is a workhorse, and he’s popped up with two goals in his last two league outings. An xG (expected goals) rate of 0.54 also suggests City should be wary.
  • Jorgen Strand Larsen
    Although he’s mainly been limited to some cameo roles, Jorgen Strand Larsen was among the goals when he bagged a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Shrewsbury in the FA Cup third round. He could look to stretch the City back line if he’s used from the off, and he scored against City last season too.

Wolves also have a relatively clean bill of health, but Teti Gomes (hamstring) is likely to be ruled out.
