Reece James of Chelsea challenges Gabriel of Arsenal during the Premier League

Although the Gunners are one of the league’s in-form sides, Chelsea, who are supposedly considered a work-in-progress, have reeled off three wins on the bounce, and they are in good shape. Whether they can last the course remains to be seen, but they held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at home last season, and a similar outcome would represent a very respectable result

Chelsea Current Form – WLWWW

Despite not being talked up as title contenders, Chelsea have climbed to second in the table, and they deserve to be included in the conversation.

Since a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Sunderland in October, Chelsea have added steel to their attacking brilliance, registering three wins on the bounce without conceding. Only David Raya (seven) has kept more clean sheets than Blues shot-stopper Robert Sanchez (six) this season. Jamie Gittens and Enzo Fernandez have come to the fore, and Enzo Maresca will be pleased with what he has seen from his side.

The goals have been shared out, and they aren’t as over-reliant on Cole Palmer as they were last season.

Key Players to Watch

  • Moises Caicedo
With a busy programme ahead, Moises Caicedo was rested against Burnley, but he has been integral to Chelsea. The Ecuadorian midfielder plays through the lines well, and he has weighed in with three goals this term, so Arsenal should be on guard.
  • Enzo Fernandez
The timing of his runs are amazing, and that was shown in his trademark dash to finish off a sweeping move against the Clarets. With four goals in 11 league games, he will look to test Arsenal’s backline.
  • Pedro Neto
Working in tandem with Fernandez is Pedro Neto, and he’s been in a purple patch, netting in back-to-back league wins over Wolves and Burnley. He’s a silky operator, and he often controls the tempo of games

Chelsea Team News

Cole Palmer has been ruled out after fracturing his toe, and that is a blow. Reece James, meanwhile, was taken off after the first half against Burnley, but it was supposedly a precautionary measure, so he is in contention to start.

Arsenal Current Form – WWWDW

Arsenal have been formidable, and they look like they could end their long wait to lift the title. Their statement victory in the North London derby oozed class, and they are six points clear at the top of the table.

Even without Gabriel, the Gunners look robust defensively, and they have virtually passed all their major tests to date.

Strength and depth in their squad has been key, and last season, Arsenal picked up four points from their two games with the Blues, so this augurs well.

Key Players to Watch

  • Eberechi Eze
A brilliant talent, Eberechi Eze produced a sublime display for Arsenal against Tottenham. He became the first Gunners player to score a hat-trick in the North London derby in the Premier League, and he has shown what he can do when Arteta lets him roam free.
  • Bukayo Saka
Direct and quick, Bukayo Saka makes things happen. Saka may not have scored against Chelsea in the league, but he is a joy to watch in full flow.
  • Declan Rice
Unerringly accurate from set-pieces, Declan Rice has weighed in with three assists this term, and he also got on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw away to Chelsea in 2023, so he could be a factor.

Arsenal Team News

Gabriel is out for several weeks, but Kai Havertz could face his former club, while Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard may also return to the starting line-up.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Sanchez; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella, Fernandez, Caicedo, Neto, Pedro, Garnacho, Delap

  2. Arsenal (4-2-3-1)

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, Calafiori, Zubimendi, Rice, Saka, Odegaard, Merino, Gyokeres

Suggested Bets

Premier League bookmakers will be stacked with pre-match lines, and we’ve highlighted a few popular football betting tips.

  1. Double Chance – Draw or Arsenal: The Double Chance line gives you two bites at the cherry. Arsenal have won or drawn on each of their past six visits to the Bridge, and it’s hard to bet against that. (4/11 with Midnite)

  2. Over 2.5 Goals: This game has traditionally served up lots of goals, with the Over 2.5 line hit in three of the past four matches, so this market offers value. (17/20 with William Hill)

  3. Arsenal Over 5.5 Shots on Target: Arsenal are far from goal shy, averaging just over seven shots on target across their past three league games, so over 5.5 has legs to it. (39/20 with BetUK)

Value Bets

  1. Anytime Assist - Declan Rice: Pinpoint with his deliveries, Rice can be counted on to lay on chances, and he could well pop up with an assist, even if the odds seem a little long. (9/2 with Bzeebet)

  2. Arsenal Over 6.5 corners: The Gunners’ prowess from corners is well known, and they have racked up 79 corners in the league this term. Over 6.5 corners is an achievable target (5/2 with Leovegas)

  3. Arsenal to Score in Both Halves: Arsenal have shown they can kill games off quickly, and against Tottenham, they netted in both halves, so this feat could be repeated. (9/4 with QuinnBet)

Prediction: Draw and Both Teams to Score

Arsenal’s rivalry with Chelsea has intensified, and the fans have been treated to some absorbing clashes over recent years. Chelsea won’t be prepared to roll out the red carpet, and they certainly won’t sit back like Tottenham did last weekend. This could be very open and end-to-end. The last two meetings at Stamford Bridge resulted in a draw where both teams scored, so it wouldn’t be silly to suggest that this could happen again.
