World Matchplay Darts 2025: Gerwyn Price Declines to Address Onstage Dispute with Daryl Gurney
Gerwyn Price sealed a fiery 10-7 win over Daryl Gurney at the World Matchplay but refused to comment on their heated on-stage exchange. The Welshman clashed with Gurney after a wild celebration, but post-match he asked media not to question him about the incident, focusing instead on his emotional control during the match.

Gerwyn Price came through a tense opening-round battle at the World Matchplay, defeating Daryl Gurney 10-7, but the drama didn’t end there, as the pair clashed in a heated exchange on stage.
Tensions Boil Over in Blackpool
The Welshman sealed the win with a clinical double 12 and erupted in one of his trademark roars.
But his passionate celebration clearly irked Gurney, who responded by mocking Price’s gesture.
That sparked a fiery confrontation as Price made his way over for a firm and clearly charged handshake. The pair exchanged words in front of the officials, with shouting continuing as they exited the stage.
Price wasn’t done, delivering another emphatic fist pump to the Blackpool crowd before heading off.
No Word on Gurney
Throughout the opening two sessions, Price was his usual animated self, feeding off the energy of the crowd. But as Gurney clawed his way back into the contest, the former world champion noticeably toned down his reactions — only to explode with emotion after landing the match-winning double.
After the match, Price declined to answer any questions from the media about the incident with Gurney, but he was willing to reflect on the intensity of the contest and how he’s developed emotionally over the years.
“Five, six, seven years ago that game probably could have got away from me and just slipped away. I’ve learned to just try and keep my emotions intact at key points, and I did it today."
“I think in two or three legs where my head was going to blow off, but I had to just keep it in.”
“I just felt like I needed to keep myself composed. Sometimes I can and I was forcing not to let my emotions get the best of me, sometimes that's what happens. I can let out the emotions and then the next leg is not so good.”
Eyes on Round Two
With the win secured, Price advances to the second round of the World Matchplay, where he will face a fellow Premier League star in Chris Dobey.
While the clash with Gurney ended in controversy, the Iceman showed his composure when it mattered most — and made it clear he’s ready for whatever comes next.
