Night 14 of the Premier League Darts roadshow lands in Leeds on Thursday – and for Luke Humphries, it’s a homecoming of sorts.

The world number one may have been born in Newbury, Berkshire, but his footballing heart has always belonged to Yorkshire. A lifelong Leeds United fan, ‘Cool Hand’ is relishing the chance to play in front of a jubilant home crowd just days after the Whites were crowned Championship winners.

Perfect Timing for Luke’s Leeds Return

Last Saturday, Daniel Farke’s side sealed the title with a 2-1 win at Plymouth, ending their season on a remarkable 100 points. The celebrations have been non-stop since – and Humphries is hoping to keep the party going with a statement performance at the First Direct Arena.

“For me it is perfect time because the whole city's probably in such a great spirit at the moment,” he told SportsBoom.co.uk.

“If you do this, three weeks before, then obviously it's anxious because we don’t know if we're gonna win the league, you're gonna be promoted and stuff.”

“Of course, when the cities in good spirits, it's gonna be a better, even better atmosphere tomorrow. They're still in party mode.”

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, more than 150,000 fans lined the streets for a citywide bus parade – but Humphries, fresh off a European Tour event in Germany, had to watch the party from afar.

“I couldn't make the parade 'cause I was flying home from Germany. I would love to have gone there. It would've been a great atmosphere, but I think 300,000 people that turn up. Shows how big these fans are and how great they are.

“It was nice to see all the antics from the players as well. It was quite a funny experience for me to see.”

Double Heartbreak to Double Glory

The contrast from last year is stark. When Humphries made his Leeds Premier League debut in 2024, the football club were still fighting for promotion through the play-offs – and ultimately lost the Wembley final to Southampton.

The same week, Humphries also fell at the final hurdle in the Premier League Darts final at London’s O2, beaten by Luke Littler. But this time around, with Leeds already celebrating promotion back to the topflight, he’s dreaming of a double celebration.

“Surely, it’s my time to double up. I win the Premier League title, and they go onto the Premier League.

“It was double heartbreak for me last year. I lost the Premier League final, and then Leeds went onto lose at Wembley.”

Ticket Fever

Tickets for Thursday night’s event have been like gold dust – selling out within minutes when first released – and Humphries has been flooded with requests from fans and footballers alike.

“I’ve had loads of message requests from so many different people,” he admitted.

Humphries revealed that most of the Leeds United squad have reached out for tickets, and while he's doing his best to accommodate them, he admitted not everyone will be able to attend due to demand.

“I’m trying my best to get as many people as I can get in, but unfortunately, I can’t get everyone in. I’m trying my best to get in as many as I can.”

Trophy Swap Dream

To wrap up the interview, we took Humphries back to the moment he lifted his first World Championship title in early 2024 — a triumph he later celebrated by parading the trophy around Elland Road, home of his beloved Leeds United.

Now, he’d love to see the favour returned, with the Leeds players bringing their Championship trophy to his stage.

“It would be quite funny wouldn’t it, me walking out with the Championship trophy.”

But the reigning world champion doesn’t expect the dream to become reality.

“I think it’s a little bit more prestigious winning Championship titles and Premier League titles; these sorts of things don’t happen.

“I’m heading to Elland Road in a bit, I’m hoping that the trophies there, I might be able to see it.”

With the city still basking in its football glory, Humphries will be hoping to give Leeds fans another night to remember – this time, with the weekly Premier League night on the line.
