Exclusive: Wigan want to make loan deal for Brentford's Ryan Trevitt permanent

Wigan Athletic are eager to secure loanee Ryan Trevitt's permanent signing amidst competition from other League One clubs. Wigan Athletic want loanee Ryan Trevitt to join the club permanently, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

But our sources understand there will be competition from a number of League One clubs for the player’s signature.

The 22-year-old's contract at Brentford, who have a club option of an extra year, expires at the end of the season. 

Clubs are waiting anticipatingly to see whether the Bees decide to activate the additional year on his contract this summer.

Trevitt has been frustrated by injuries every time his career looks to be building some momentum and he is desperate to showcase his promise this term at Wigan. 

Latics’ boss Ryan Lowe hopes Wigan will be at the front of the queue to secure the highly-rated midfielder’s services.

Exeter City, where Trevitt spent the last two seasons on loan, are among clubs monitoring the player’s situation alongside Wycombe Wanderers and Reading.

Speaking about his loan players this season, Lowe said: “In terms of Ryan and Cal [Wright] we’ve got them on loan with a view to permanent deals, definitely.”

“There’s definitely scope for something to possibly happen in January or the summer.” 

A Talent 

Trevitt trialled with a number of West London clubs; Chelsea, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers before joining Brentford in 2021.

He helped the B team with the Premier League Cup, scoring in the final against Blackburn Rovers, as he notched dup 16 goals and 11 assists.

Trevitt made his first-team debut in 2022 in the EFL Cup against Colchester United and was called up to Thomas Frank’s squad at the end of the season.

In the 2023/24 season he went on loan to Exeter City, where boss Gary Caldwell labelled him as having “Premier League quality” and scored five times in 23 games before undergoing surgery for a twisted ankle.

He returned to the Grecians in January for the second half of last season and made 12 appearances before his season was cut short by a hamstring injury in April.
