Brentford will reignite their interest in Joey Veerman in January, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Bees saw two late bids, in the region of £20million and £30million, for the PSV Eindhoven midfielder turned down.
Our sources understand the Premier League club met the player’s release clause, but it had expired earlier in the window.
The Dutch international was open to a move to England, but it was blocked by PSV bosses due to not having enough time to source and sign an adequate replacement.
But our sources have been told Veerman remains interested in a move to the Premier League if the opportunitiy arises again.
Speaking after the transfer fell through, Veerman said: “I said I was disappointed. They knew I wanted to transfer and that an offer could come.”
“If Brentford had come earlier, the deal would have been done. They waited too long. The clause in my contract expired two weeks before the deadline. I understand [PSV’s] position, and I can’t change the fact that they couldn’t find a suitable replacement."
Brentford had been rebuffed in their approaches to sign Maximilian Beier and turned their attentions late on to Veerman as the club looked to bolster their squad after Yoane Wissa's deadline day switch to Newcastle United.
