Manchester City vs Leeds United Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Date: Saturday, 29 November Venue: Etihad Stadium Kick-off time: 3pm GMT Saturday’s clash between Manchester City and Leeds United will impact both ends of the Premier League table this Saturday, 29 November, as the hosts, sitting third from top, take on the visitors placed third from bottom. With City going into this clash with the joint strongest attack in the league, and with Leeds having lost five of their six league games away from home already this season, the signs would indicate we can expect a home victory. However, the hosts have been beaten four times in the league already this season, and will be under pressure to keep pace with Arsenal, who are currently seven points ahead of them at the top of the table. Ahead of kick-off, some of the best football betting sites are already offering odds on the contest. If you want to be fully up to speed, read on and see our betting preview ahead of the game.

Manchester City Current Form – WWWWL

Manchester City had been looking much more like their old selves before the November international break, racking up four wins in a row, which culminated in a dominant 3-0 win at home to Liverpool.
However, the Citizens’ good run was brought to an abrupt end with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United last Saturday. At the time of writing, City are set to play Bayer Leverkusen at home in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, ahead of the Leeds game.

What is encouraging for the home team, though, is that since losing their opening home league game to Tottenham, they have won five home league games in a row.

Key Players to Watch

  • Erling Haaland: The Norwegian forward is some way clear at the top of the Premier League scoring charts, having amassed 14 goals from 12 games this season so far. Going into the Bayer Leverkusen game, Haaland had scored 19 goals for his club in total this campaign.
  • Phil Foden: The man who won the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season award had started to rediscover some of his best form before the international break, but he will be looking to bounce back after a crucial miss in the loss at Newcastle.
  • Jeremy Doku: The Belgian winger was outstanding in the recent 3-0 win against Liverpool, although he needs to add more to his one goal and two assists racked up this season.

Manchester City Team News

Going into the Bayer Leverkusen game, City’s only injury worries were midfielders Rodri and Mateo Kovacic. The former is close to making his way back from a knee injury, while the latter is not expected to be back from an ankle injury until 2026.

Leeds United Current Form – LWLLL

Leeds have slipped into the bottom three of the Premier League, with last Sunday’s defeat at home to Aston Villa making it five losses in six games. The only outlier was a 2-1 win at home to West Ham in October, who were badly out of form themselves at the time.

There is little encouragement to be taken from Leeds’ away form, too. Their only points gathered on the road came in a 3-1 win at Wolves, who are bottom of the table, in September.
The Whites are also leaking goals, with eight conceded in the last three, and they have not kept a clean sheet in nine games.

Key Players to Watch

  • Lucas Perri: The Brazilian goalkeeper is going to have to be on form, with the likelihood that City will be landing plenty of shots on target.
  • Lukas Nmecha: The forward has started to show some encouraging form, scoring in each of Leeds’ last two games. He will simply have to take any chance that comes his way on Saturday, as opportunities are likely to be rare.
  • Joe Rodon: At 6 feet, 3 inches tall, the Welsh centre-back will need to be at the top of his game to combat the physical threat of Haaland.

Leeds United Team News

While Leeds are close to being at full strength, midfielder Anton Stach went off injured against Aston Villa after suffering a blow to the head, and he will be assessed before the City game.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Manchester City (4-1-4-1) Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Gonzalez; Cherki, Silva, Foden, Doku; Haaland.

  2. Leeds (4-3-3) Perri; Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Gudmundsson; Ampadu, Longstaff, Tanaka; Aaronson, Okafor, Nmecha.

Suggested Bets

Having looked at the odds for this game across several bookmakers, here are some suggested bets for Saturday’s game at some of the top football sportsbooks:

  1. Erling Haaland – Over 2.5 shots on target: There is every chance the league’s top scorer could get on the scoresheet multiple times, and he is likely to carry plenty of attacking threat. (LeoVegas 13/10)

  2. Manchester City to win -2: City’s strong home form and Leeds’ poor form generally indicate a comfortable home victory (Midnite 9/5)

  3. Manchester City to win and both teams to score: City are far better placed to win this game on current form, but have only kept one clean sheet in their last six games (BetMGM 39/20)

Value Bets

  1. First Goalscorer - Erling Haaland: The forward has to be the standout candidate for first goalscorer, having scored a league high 14 goals so far. (StarSports 9/5, Bet 442 23/10)

  2. Over 3.5 Goals: City have scored 10 goals in their last three home games, and Leeds have conceded eight goals in their last three games (Betway 13/10, StarSports 11/8)

  3. Both Teams to Score: Leeds have not kept a clean sheet in nine games, while City have kept one clean sheet in six games going into this week (Betway 1/1, Bet442 1/1)

Prediction: Manchester City to Win -2

It is difficult to see anything other than a comfortable home win on Saturday. Not only do Manchester City have the joint-strongest attack in the Premier League with 24 goals scored, but they are facing a Leeds team badly out of form, with manager Daniel Farke increasingly coming under pressure.
Leeds’ best hope may be that the Bayer Leverkusen fixture in midweek takes a lot out of City, but in all likelihood, the visitors may be pleased if they can just keep the score down this Saturday.
