Grand Slam of Darts 2025: Gerwyn Price Returns to Old Superstitions as He Eyes Premier League Spot
Three-time Grand Slam champ Gerwyn Price topped his group at the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts, returning to his iconic black attire and old shoes for luck. Despite mixed results this season, he insists his form and ranking make him a Premier League contender.

Three-time Grand Slam of Darts champion Gerwyn Price made a statement in the group stages of the 2025 edition, cruising into the last 16 with a commanding 5-1 victory over Swiss qualifier Stefan Bellmont and topping his group in the process.
Despite some of the best darts of his career this season, Price’s high averages have yet to translate into deep runs on the televised ranking stage. He has yet to reach a semi-final this season, a fact he admits has left him disappointed.
Back to Familiar Ground
Determined to rediscover his winning ways, Price has reverted to his old attire, hoping his familiar superstitions will guide him to victory in Wolverhampton this week.
He has returned to his iconic ‘all black’ shirt, the outfit he last wore when lifting the Grand Slam trophy, moving away from the black, white, and blue number he had sported earlier this season, including at the World Grand Prix in Leicester.
Price has even gone back to an old pair of shoes, his trusted black and white pair, discarding a newer set after advice from a close friend.
“I stuck with my black and white shoes for a bit. My buddy John he’s been away for a while and whenever he’s with me it’s a good omen, and he told me to go back to my black shoes. Get rid of those ’Nathan Aspinall trainers’ is what he said, and I did and it’s worked.”
Superstitions Beyond the Oche
His superstitions don’t stop at clothing. Price also revealed how small details can affect his mindset, even down to where cars are parked near his accommodation.
“Yeah, because I'm staying outside Wolverhampton and there was one car parked in the space that I parked in for the last couple of nights and that’s played in my head a little.”
Premier League Credentials
While Price has impressed on the Premier League stage and sits atop the PDC’s Players Championship rankings, earning him the number one seed at the Players Championship Finals later this year, his mixed results have seen him drop outside the world’s top 10 in the PDC Order of Merit. That has sparked questions over whether he will be included in next year’s Premier League line-up.
Price was clear when asked about his Premier League credentials: "I think I'm one of the best this season. If you look at the way I played last year, it was absolutely terrible and I was in."
"I'm number one on the players championship list. If you look at money earned, I’m in the top five, top six. I’ve had a great year.”
Price certainly keeps a close watch on the ‘year-to-date’ order of merit, as he does currently sit in sixth for money earned so far in 2025.
Don’t Question Me
When it comes to Premier League selection, he delivered a blunt and confident response, making it clear that his form speaks for itself.
"Look at everybody else, don't question me, question them.”
For Price, it’s more than just about points or rankings, it’s about asserting his status among the elite. After all, the three-time Grand Slam champion has proven time and again that he thrives under pressure, and he’s sending a clear message to both his peers and the fans: his place in the Premier League isn’t up for debate.
