Are Casino Sister Sites Confusing UK Players?
Sister sites have been a key part of the UK’s casino market for a long time. They offer a different ‘vibe’ to other sites in the group but lean on the same licensing and often the same operations, too.

Are Casino Sister Sites Confusing UK Players
For players, there are advantages and disadvantages to using these sites. Some players think they artificially crowd the market and make it harder to find a unique casino experience, while others think they offer a more reliable service, with enough personality to be justified.
What Are Casino Sister Sites?
Sister sites are two or more casino brands that are owned and operated by the same company. They almost always share the same licence too, which, for me, is the easiest way to check if you’re playing on an independent site or a sister site - just look for the licence in the footer. You can then check that licence number on the UKGC register and see if any other domain names appear [1].
While the branding will differ, sister sites often share many of the same underlying systems. It could be the same payment process, the same customer support teams, the same game suppliers - and so on.
From a business perspective, this makes perfect sense. Setting up multiple teams and processes to do the same job is an unnecessary expense. Instead, running multiple brands allows operators to target different audiences without building entirely separate businesses from scratch.
For players, though, it’s not always such a straightforward choice.
What Are White Label Casinos?
White-label casinos are slightly different from sister sites. A white-label arrangement allows a brand to operate using another company's licence, technology platform, and compliance infrastructure [2].
This means the owners of the casino focus mostly on branding and customer acquisition, while the white label provider handles the bones of the operation. That’s why you sometimes see two completely unrelated casinos, operated by two unrelated companies that look weirdly similar - they’re probably using the same white label.
What Are Independent Casinos?
Independent online casinos are just that - independent. They’re owned by one company, with its own platform. This doesn’t mean they’re better; it just means they’re more likely to offer an experience that’s a bit different from other brands.
Advantages of Playing at Sister Sites
We know what sister sites are now, but what are the benefits of playing at them?
- New Feel, With History: You might find a newly launched casino and wonder if it’ll live up to your standards. With sister sites, you get the newly launched feel but with the backing of a well-established brand.
- Familiarity: If you already enjoy playing at one casino, but you’d like to add another to your roster, then a sister site can offer that same, but different, feeling.
- Reliability: By pooling payment and customer support resources, sister sites can offer the efficiency and reliability of a big brand to a whole slew of sites.
The Disadvantages of Sister Sites
While plenty of players enjoy playing at sister sites - and many won't even realise that they are - there are some downsides that it’s good to be aware of.
Bonus Issues
For me, this is the single biggest issue with sister sites. Some groups restrict bonuses across not just one site, but the whole group. That means if you claim the welcome bonus at one site, you might not be able to claim it at any of the others in the group.
If this is clearly disclosed, then it’s totally legal; it can just be annoying if you only find out once you’ve gone through the sign-up and deposit process. One to check out before making that first payment!
Similar Game Libraries
Game libraries can go either way. The modern UK casino market relies surprisingly heavily on a relatively small number of major software providers. So, whether you visit a sister site or an indie site, you’ll probably see many of the same games.
However, sister sites often magnify this, as they might use near-identical game libraries. You’ll sometimes see brand exclusives or different curation, but the overall selection is likely to be very similar between sister brands.
Responsible Gambling
While there’s no obligation on sister sites to apply responsible gambling tools between sites, there are some that do - and crucially, some that don’t.
Many players assume that if they set limits or take a break from one casino, similar protections automatically apply elsewhere. In fact, it’s always best to manually check. The only responsible gambling tool that applies across all casinos (with a UKGC licence) is that if you self-exclude via GAMSTOP or SENSE, you can self-exclude from just one site manually [3].
