Wrexham have made Dom Ballard their top target this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
But the Leyton Orient hitman is on the radar of a number of clubs after his stellar campaign in League One.
Ballard scooped the third-tier Golden Boot with 23 strikes, despite Orient finishing just above the relegation zone.
The young gun, still only 21, signed for Orient last summer from Southampton and could be on the move to the Championship after just a year in the capital, with the club set to land a tidy profit.
Sources close to the Welsh club say Wrexham are eyeing up four or five signings this summer, with Blackburn's Todd Cantwell also being linked to the club, as they look to strengthen their squad after agonisingly finishing just two points shy of the play-off spots during their first season in the Championship.
They may have missed the chance of a history-making fourth straight promotion, but Phil Parkinson’s employers are determined to realise their Premier League dream next season.
Wanted Man
Wrexham will no doubt face stiff competition for the marksman this summer, with a number of teams in the play-offs having run the rule over him this term as well.
Norwich City have emerged as contenders as well as Swansea City, with both clubs in the market for a striker this summer.
It is understood a number of League One outfits are keen on his signature, but will be priced out by Championship interest in the former Saints youngster.
Ballard, who hit three hat-tricks on the pitch this season, scooped a treble off it as well as he landed a trio of gongs at the EFL Awards.
He was named League One Player of the Season, League One Young Player of the Season and was named in the Team of the Season.
