Hull City have lined up a move for Hajduk Split midfielder Rokas Pukštas as they look to strengthen following their return to the Premier League, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Tigers have launched a bid for the highly-rated midfielder, with boss Sergej Jakirović understood to be a huge admirer of the American-born youngster and eager to bring him to the MKM Stadium this summer.

Hull's promotion back to the Premier League has handed the club fresh momentum in the transfer market after the Tigers secured a dramatic return to the top flight this season.

Having won promotion and ended a nine-year absence from English football's elite, Hull are preparing for their first Premier League campaign since 2016-17, when their previous stay lasted just a single season before relegation.

Determined to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, the Tigers are targeting young, high-potential talent capable of making an immediate impact at the highest level, with Pukštas among their top summer priorities.

Pukštas could offer a clear upgrade in midfield with his box-to-box energy and goal threat, particularly as Regan Slater has been linked with a return to his boyhood club, Sheffield United.

TARGET

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of Hull's leading transfer targets, with Jakirović having followed his development closely during his time working in Croatian football.

Pukštas remains under contract with Hajduk until May 2027 after signing a contract extension in December 2023, meaning Hull are likely to face a sizeable fee if they are to persuade the Croatian giants to sell one of their prized assets.

Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Pukštas has established himself as one of the brightest young midfielders in Croatian football since arriving at Hajduk's academy from Sporting Kansas City's youth system.

The energetic box-to-box midfielder has earned a reputation for his powerful running, ability to break into the penalty area and eye for goal from central midfield.

Despite being born in the United States, Pukštas is also eligible to represent Lithuania through his family heritage and has featured prominently for the United States at the youth international level, representing his country in the Under-20 and Under-23 age groups.

PROGRESS

His performances for Hajduk have not gone unnoticed, with a number of clubs across Europe having monitored his progress over the past two seasons.

Hull, however, believes their Premier League status and Jakirović's knowledge of the Croatian market could give them an advantage in the race for his signature.

The Tigers are expected to continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign, with Jakirović keen to add younger players who can help the club establish itself in the Premier League while also offering significant long-term value.

Pukštas fits that profile perfectly, and Hull are hopeful their opening offer can begin negotiations with Hajduk as they push to land one of the most promising young midfielders in Croatian football.

If Hull land Pukštas, it’s a sensible upside play rather than a statement signing. With Slater linked to Sheffield United, it adds depth, but in betting terms, it only marginally improves their survival case without more Premier League experience coming in.
