Head-to-Head: (Last 3 Matches)

Both Gerwyn Price and Daniel Lauby Jr. have played each other three times previously, and coincidentally, they have all taken place this season. The end result sees Price winning all three of those to varying degrees of dominance, winning against Lauby Jr. in the first four Players Championship events. These matches taking place earlier this season will provide familiarity with each other’s play styles ahead of this clash, but no game has taken place between the two on the big stage.

Daniel Lauby Jr.

World Series of Darts Ranking: 16

World Series of Darts Finals best result: Debut

As already mentioned, Daniel Lauby Jr. is a new tour card holder after earning it for the first time in 2024. That said, he’s a known face in the darts world as he’s played PDC events since 2010 and played in WDF and local tournaments too. He embarks on his World Series of Finals debut after being presented with the incredible opportunity of playing in the US Darts Masters at the iconic Madison Square Garden. With this opportunity, he whitewashed Rob Cross before losing to Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals.

On the main tour, however, he’s struggled to reach further than the fourth round on the floor, which is a concern for the 32-year-old. These results place him 91st in the world, but this season has failed to progress further than the second round in the 128-player competition. It’s important to mention though that season he reached the fifth round of the UK Open, which is an impressive feat given the lack of form on the floor.

Gerwyn Price

World Series of Darts Ranking: 3

World Series of Darts Finals best result: Winner (2020, 2022)

Gerwyn Price has only won two TV tournaments more than once – the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series of Darts Finals. This stat is crucial to know ahead of this matchup with Lauby Jr. Price struggled in 2024; it was evident to see, but he rectified his ways this year to make finals night in the 2025 Premier League.

This is a strong achievement considering he played in the floor and European Tour tournaments as well, winning four Players Championship events throughout the year. He also won the European Tour event in Kiel, signalling a first win in those events since 2023. Price’s tournament wins extend further to the World Series of Darts circuit, too, winning the Polish Darts Masters and entering this tournament as the third seed. Price will no doubt he raring to go and wanting to win a third title, and his form suggests there’s a strong chance.

Value Bets

  1. Total Legs – Under 9.5 Legs: All first-round matches follow a first-to-six legs format, which leaves little room for error. With the short format in play, we’re backing this match to go under 9.5 legs. While the two players haven’t faced each other often, both come into this clash well-prepared, having competed regularly throughout the year.

  2. Most 180s – Gerwyn Price: We fancy Gerwyn Price to produce the biggest maximums because of his sheer scoring power. He’s slowly back to playing at his best level on the big stage, especially after his run to the O2 in the Premier League.

  3. Highest Checkout – Gerwyn Price: Gerwyn Price’s form suggests he has a high checkout in him, especially as he’s extremely clinical with timing at pivotal moments in the match.

Prediction: Gerwyn Price to win 6-3

In conclusion, SportsBoom predicts that Gerwyn Price will prevail 6-3 over Daniel Lauby Jr. Lauby Jr.’s results at the UK Open suggest he’s composed on the big stage, but Price’s superiority in form and knowledge of this tournament is the deciding factor. A two-time champion at this tournament walks into this game as a heavy favourite.
