Exclusive: Cameron Vuong vs. Gavin Gwynne Rematch Destined to Happen, says Boxing Agent Sam Jones
New advisor Sam Jones is prioritizing "grudge fights" for heavyweight Daniel Dubois and his stable, including a potential rematch between Cameron Vuong and Gavin Gwynne. With big domestic fights in demand, Jones aims to deliver exciting matchups for fans, with Vuong eyeing a future headline bout in Vietnam.

One of British boxing’s bitterest grudge matches appears destined to happen, SportsBoom has learned, after being told by Sam Jones that arranging “big domestic fights” is his priority over the next 12 months.
Having recently been confirmed as Daniel Dubois’ new advisor following the heavyweight’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, Jones is among the most influential figures in the sport with Jack Catterall and Pat Brown also members of his stable.
Another name operating under the Derby-based businessman’s banner is Cameron Vuong, whose unblemished professional record remained intact courtesy of a controversial and still heavily debated points decision towards the end of last year against rival Gavin Gwynne.
The pair have traded insults ever since, with Gwynne threatening to “Smash” his rival’s “F*****g head in” during a recent interview which prompted Vuong to label the Welshman “a rat."
Although the narrative surrounding the 23-year-old’s victory over Gwynne almost demands a re-match, the pair have yet to lock horns again in the ring.
BIG DEMAND
“We are looking to make Cameron Vuong versus Gavin Gwynne again. Of course we are because the demand is definitely there," Jones told SportsBoom.co.uk.
“There’s really big things ahead for us and the sport is in a really good place. To keep it there, we’ve got to make sure the people get what they want and that’s fights like this.”
“Both of them want to do it again, for very different reasons,” Jones continued.
“So that means, when you throw everything else into the mix, that it’s bound to happen."
“It will and it’s one of the things we’re looking to get done, for sure.”
Vuong is slated to appear at Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton-le-Spring next month, although an opponent has yet to be officially confirmed.
Like Gwynne, who bounced back from his latest loss by beating Owen Durnan in Neath, Vuong will step back between the ropes in a positive frame of mind having prevailed over Jordan Flynn when the pair contested the vacant WBO European lightweight belt five months ago.
With the youngster’s career also being overseen by promoter Eddie Hearn, Vuong needs to satisfy the public’s craving for another clash with Gwynne to avoid leaving a question mark over his future prospects.
DOMESTIC DUEL
“For the fans here, there’s still nothing like a big domestic fight and that’s what we’ve got to give them."
“Boxing is in a great place and has a worldwide audience. But we still have to have those big nights here.”
Although Saudi Arabia is now the destination of choice for the biggest names in the sport, given the riches the Kingdom’s powerbrokers are prepared to spend on combat sports, Vuong has exclusively told SportsBoom that his dream is to honour his family’s heritage by headlining a show in Vietnam.
The noise a second clash with Gwynne would generate, combined with Jones’ ability to squeeze every last drop of publicity out of a bout could see him take a significant step closer towards fulfilling that dream.
“We definitely want to see it happen,” Jones said. “It’s something that’s going to be worked on, for sure.”
