A Sneak Peek into the 2026 Halo World Snooker Championship

The top 16 players in the world rankings, as they stood after the 2026 Tour Championship, earned automatic seeding into the main stage at the Crucible. They are joined by 16 players who battled through the qualifying rounds, held from 6 to 15 April at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, featuring 128 professionals and invited amateurs competing for a place on snooker’s biggest stage.

There is a strong Chinese presence once again, with five seeded players and six qualifiers making up a record total of 11 competitors in the main draw. Among the debutants at the Crucible are He Guoqiang, Antoni Kowalski, Stan Moody, and Liam Pullen, with Kowalski making history as the first Polish player ever to reach the main stage of the World Snooker Championship.

Zhao Xintong enters the tournament as defending champion after defeating Mark Williams 18–12 in the 2025 final to claim his maiden world title. He now becomes the 21st player to attempt to overcome the “Crucible curse” — the long-standing fact that no first-time champion has successfully defended their title since the event moved to the Crucible in 1977.
