Club Brugge, the talent factory of Belgian football, is preparing to add a new name to the stars it has exported to European giants in recent years.

French-Senegalese winger Mamadou Diakhon, who was transferred from Stade de Reims in the summer of 2025 for a fee of €9 million, has caught the radar of English scouts with his performances in his debut season at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

As the Summer 2026 transfer window approaches, mid-table Premier League sides and established Championship clubs with promotion ambitions have entered a fierce race to secure the signature of this 20-year-old "speed machine."

First Season on the Pitch: Impact Beyond Statistics

Although Diakhon has yet to find the back of the net in the 2025-26 Belgian Pro League season, he has become one of the league's most creative wingers with 7 assists.

Specifically, his pass accuracy of 89.58%, an extraordinary level for a winger, proves that he makes a difference not just with his pace, but also with his football intelligence.

In the Champions League, the young star took on a more clinical persona, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in 9 appearances, proving his mettle on Europe's most elite stage.

Club Brugge’s Strategy: "Sold if the Price is Right"

The Club Brugge hierarchy had long-term planning in mind when signing Diakhon.

The player's contract runs until June 2029, which significantly strengthens Brugge’s hand at the negotiating table.

However, the Belgian side’s financial structure is built on balancing the budget by making at least one major sale every season. According to leaked internal information, although manager Ivan Leko is pleased with the player's development, the club is not entirely closed to a sale as young talents capable of replacing him are already prepared.

Brugge management is expected to open the door for Diakhon in the €20M to €25M bracket. Considering the €9 million paid in 2025, doubling the player's value within a single season is seen as a massive commercial success for the club.

The Premier League and Championship Race

Reports from England indicate a "transfer derby" for Diakhon.

Everton and Crystal Palace have added Diakhon to the top of their shortlists to increase dynamism in their attacking lines.

Ipswich and Middlesbrough, battling to return to the Premier League, want to sign Diakhon as a "game changer."

Ipswich’s wing-oriented play style in recent years and Middlesbrough's attacking overhaul plans have made the Diakhon transfer the "signing of the season" for both clubs. These clubs are reportedly preparing a package including €10-12 million in cash plus performance bonuses.

Ipswich look increasingly likely to lose winger Jaden Philogene this summer regardless of whether they secure promotion or remain in the Championship, making Diakhon a natural and high-upside replacement option to fill that void on the flanks.

Financial Status and Squad Planning

Club Brugge currently sits in second place in the 2025-26 season, just behind Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in the title race.

While Champions League revenues have provided financial breathing room, it is considered certain that one of the high-market-value wingers, such as Diakhon or Carlos Forbs, will be sold to create the squad budget for next season.

The club's main targets for the summer window are a leader for the midfield and an experienced centre back for the defense; the funding for these goals will come from Diakhon’s journey to the Island.
