RB Leipzig Left Behind as Premier League Clubs Move for Midtjylland Defender Ousmane Diao

Ousmane Diao, who has redefined the definition of the "ball-playing, athletic, and playmaker centre back" sought by modern football in the Danish skies, has reached the greatest threshold of his career. 

The 21-year-old Senegalese defender, who has delivered a dominant performance both in the domestic league and on the European stage this season with FC Midtjylland, has become the hottest name on the "Premier League route" for the Summer 2026 transfer window. 

Especially the persistent tracking by established clubs in England indicates that this transfer is only a matter of time.

Diao’s current contract with Midtjylland continues until June 30, 2029.
