While Monaco left the pitch with a 2-1 victory against Lyon, a direct rival for a Champions League spot in Ligue 1, the hero of the match was undoubtedly Maghnes Akliouche.
The 24-year-old right-winger's successful performance in the Marseille match was enough to excite the English observers in the stands.
Performance Under Observation
Scouts monitoring the match at the stadium witnessed Akliouche demonstrate all the attributes expected of a modern winger.
Operating on the right flank, Akliouche scored the goal that initiated Monaco’s comeback against Lyon (63rd minute) and was the player who won the penalty prior to Folarin Balogun’s winning goal. He finished the match with one goal and one "indirect" assist (the won penalty).
Scouting reports highlighted Akliouche’s technical proficiency in tight spaces, his demonstrated agility, and his off-the-ball discipline. Specifically, his runs into the heart of the Lyon defense and his chemistry with Jordan Teze were noted as "high-level tactical intelligence."
His willingness to take responsibility during high-pressure moments and his high pass completion rate (80%+) proved that the player is not just a talent, but a "match-winner."
Giants in the Stand
An army of scouts from elite Premier League clubs occupied the VIP stands of the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.
Manchester United and Newcastle United: It has been confirmed that both clubs sent special representatives to the match and took detailed notes on Akliouche and his teammate Lamine Camara.
It is stated that Manchester United views the player as a "strategic target" to resolve their creativity issues on the right wing.
Reports suggest that Liverpool, preparing for the departure of Mohamed Salah, were also part of this monitoring operation.
Aston Villa were reported to have made a move in the January window just gone, however the €50 in demand was deemed too much by the Villa Park hierarchy.
Serious Interest or Just Tracking?
The Monaco hierarchy is well aware that Akliouche’s value is increasing by the day.
The club kept the player at the heart of their project by refusing to sell him in January. However, it is rumored that Monaco may give the "green light" to offers around €65 million for the summer of 2026.
