Lincoln City have held talks with Archie Collins, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Imps have had the recently released Peterborough United midfielder on their radar since it was announced he had turned down a contract extension and would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Sources close to the club have told SportsBoom that boss Michael Skubala is a huge admirer of the player and believes he fits the ethos and mould of his City squad.
Skubala is known to prioritise a harmonious, hard-working squad over the flamboyance of individual brilliance and Collins has the traits Skubala treasures in abundance.
He scored two goals and provided seven assists during a tough campaign for Posh this term.
Choice Of Destination
It is understood there are a number of clubs interested in the 26-year-old, who is assessing his options, with Leicester City keen on his League One experience as they look to bounce straight back to the Championship following their relegation.
But a shot at the Championship at Sincil Bank is believed to be an appealing prospect for the former Exeter City youngster.
Collins enjoyed six seasons at the Grecians, who he helped get promoted to League One, before moving to Posh for a six-figure transfer fee in 2023.
He enjoyed back-to-back EFL Trophy successes whilst at London Road and is now looking to take the next step in his career.
Collins started the first 45 league games for Posh before Luke Williams left him out on the final day.
But Williams paid him a glowing tribute and said: “If the Championship as a whole is silly enough to not give him an opportunity then it is crazy.”
“Whatever he does, he will join a really ambitious club with a chance of having a very good season.”
