Leeds United must persuade Wilfried Gnonto that he remains part of Daniel Farke’s long-term thinking in order to dissuade him from seeking a return to Italy, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
A host of Serie A clubs, including Napoli, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma, have joined Juventus in the race for the 22-year-old’s services amid reports he is minded to leave Elland Road this summer.
Fiorentina are also preparing to make a presentation to Gnonto’s representatives, as hopes grow in Tuscany that their ambitious plans for the future under new owner Giuseppe Commisso will also make the Artemio Franchi a potentially desirable destination.
Although Farke would be happy to retain Gnonto’s services, with the player’s contract not set to expire until 2028, the German is also thought to be ready to sacrifice him in order to draft-in reinforcements should the right offer arrive.
And that has prompted the attacker, who was born in Piedmont, to begin assessing his options ahead of next term as interest in him continues to grow.
Juventus, whose head coach Luciano Spalletti is plotting a major summer makeover following another underwhelming campaign in Turin, is a confirmed admirer of Gnonto while the two Milanese giants, most notably Inter, are also in the hunt for a winger.
Likewise Napoli, as they struggle to retain the Scudetto and, given the vacancy which exists at the head of the national federation, possibly head coach Antonio Conte as well.
Fiorentina Aiming To Scoop Rivals
But Gnonto’s advisors, SportsBoom has discovered, are also aware that I Viola are also monitoring their client’s situation closely and could table a lucrative package should they decide to submit an official bid.
With Commisso being handed control of the club following the death of his father, Fiorentina are planning to overhaul both their playing and technical staff ahead of the 2026/27 season whilst their stadium is also undergoing a significant makeover.
Commisso jr wants a squad fit to match what is set to be a state-of-the-art facility and is aware that acquiring someone of Gnonto’s talents would send the right message to other high-profile targets.
Farke’s employers are relatively relaxed about Gnonto’s position, given that he is tied to an agreement which still has more than 28 months to run.
However, if an auction breaks-out for his signature, then they are also ready to assess the financial situation at Elland Road once Premier League status is officially secured.
