For West Ham, this is about survival and momentum. Hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, every point now feels precious. The Hammers know that a result on derby day could be the spark that steadies their campaign and pulls them clear of trouble. Palace, meanwhile, arrives with a different motivation and has an opportunity to turn a decent season into a strong one after facing uncertainty both on and off the pitch.

Known for its electric, old-school atmosphere, Crystal Palace will lock horns with West Ham at Selhurst Park on 20 April 2026. What makes this derby even more compelling is one side fighting to breathe easier and the other pushing to finish strong. Expect a London derby that refuses to disappoint.

Crystal Palace Current Form – WWWDD

Crystal Palace has had a rather eventful season, but in recent outings, they have evolved from controlled but toothless to balanced and dangerous. Add to that a renewed confidence in forward areas, led by a more clinical edge, and the Eagles now look like a side that can control matches, absorb pressure, and strike decisively, rather than just contain opponents or get carved apart.

Coming into this fixture, Palace had some tricky fixtures to overcome, which began with Leeds. They were disciplined but lacked incision in the final third. The Whites have proven to be a tough nut to crack when they click into gear, which the Eagles found difficult to break down as they lacked creativity, resulting in a goalless draw and a shared point for both teams.

Next was their Europa League return leg against AEK Larnaca, and with the tie deadlocked after a goalless stalemate from the first match, Palace showed composure under pressure to steal the win away from home and advance to the next round. After the international break, the Eagles returned to face Fiorentina in their Europa League quarterfinal tie and comfortably defeated the Italian side at home.

With renewed energy and growing confidence, Oliver Glasner’s side then welcomed Newcastle to South London and followed up with another impressive victory against the Magpies. After the damage was done in the first round, Palace travelled to Italy to face Fiorentina for the return leg and put out a mature performance that also served as preparation for what’s to come against West Ham.

Key Players To Watch

  • Jean-Philippe Mateta: Mateta’s return has given Palace a lift in confidence, especially with his ability to hold off defenders, link-up play, and the goal-scoring prowess that has earned him respect from teams in the top-flight. Whether quick finishes, composed strikes, or through set-pieces, Mateta remains the danger man.
  • Ismaila Sarr: Sarr is a high-tempo wide attacker whose game is built on explosive pace and direct attacking threat and has become the primary source of goals for the Eagles. In quick transitions or in open games, it is when Sarr is at his best, turning speed into scoring opportunities.
  • Adam Wharton: Wharton has quickly established himself as one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League. His influence lies in control, intelligence on and off the ball, and the ability to orchestrate play from deep or advanced positions.

Crystal Palace Team News

Eddie Nketiah is ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a fourth recurrence of a hamstring injury. Evann Guessand is set to miss another week out due to a knee injury he sustained against Fiorentina in the Conference League.

West Ham Current Form – WDLDD

Since Nuno Espirito Santo took charge, West Ham have started to rediscover a clear identity. There is a growing sense of fight and belief that has been missing. Whether it’s grinding out results, surviving tough spells, or delivering when it matters most, the Hammers look like a team that understands the stakes. This combination could be exactly what keeps them clear of the drop.

Against Brentford, West Ham showed fighting spirit in a chaotic, end-to-end FA Cup tie. They took the lead, were pegged back, and had to dig deep through extra time before eventually progressing on penalties. It wasn’t the best performance, but it highlighted their character and resilience to respond under pressure, with key players stepping up in decisive moments.

Following their cup success, Man City was the next challenge, and against one of the league’s elite, the Hammers delivered a disciplined and organized display to secure a vital point against the title contenders. However, their momentum was short-lived, and they were reminded just how hard it is to sustain such high standards in the Premier League after Aston Villa handed them defeat.

In the FA Cup quarterfinal, the London side were drawn against Leeds, and again, it was a fixture that produced endless attacking action. After regulation and extra time, the Whites won the penalty shootout to advance. Returning to league action, Nuno’s men knew they needed a big performance against Wolves, and ruthless finishing ensured they secured three vital points ahead of facing Palace.

Key Players To Watch

  • Jarrod Bowen: Bowen plays with directness, energy, and constant attacking intent. His game is built around acceleration, sharp off-the-ball runs, and an instinct for arriving in the box at the right moment. Add to that his clinical finishing, and he becomes a reliable goal threat even with limited chances.
  • Crysencio Summerville: Summerville is dynamic, fearless, and creative – a high-risk, high-reward attacker who can change a game in a single moment. He’s at his most dangerous in transition, where he can drive at opponents to produce decisive moments in the final third or finishing chances himself.
  • Taty Castellanos: Energetic, combative, and instinctive, Castellanos brings chaos to defences and capitalizes on it. With intelligent movement in the box, attacking crosses, and reacting to loose balls, he is capable of finishing from close range or improvising in tight situations, offering a constant goal threat.

West Ham Team News

Lukasz Fabianski remains sidelined with a long-term back injury, and his possible return date is uncertain as he continues to recover.

Prediction: Crystal Palace to Win

Even as West Ham arrive determined and with confidence in their ability to steer clear of the drop zone, Crystal Palace have been in great form of late. This fixture is far from straightforward, given the occasion, but Palace may edge this derby, especially on home soil.
