The Gunners were left to rue their missed chances at the Etihad Stadium last weekend as City closed the gap at the top with Pep Guardiola’s charges running out 2-1 winners.

Although Arsenal have work to do, Newcastle are coming off the back of three defeats on the spin, and their season is starting to fizzle out. Can Newcastle put a spanner in the works? Our Arsenal vs Newcastle United preview is filled with stats and betting insights.

Head-to-Head Record

Premier League head-to-head records should be noted before any given game. This is how the tale of the tape looks between Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Previous Premier League Meetings

  • 28/09/25: Newcastle United 1-2 Arsenal
  • 18/05/25: Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle United
  • 02/11/24: Newcastle United 1-0 Arsenal
  • 24/02/24: Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle United
  • 07/05/23: Newcastle United 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal Current Form – WWWLL

With what seemed like an almost unassailable nine-point lead at the start of the month, Arsenal are beginning to look nervously over their shoulders.

City are right on their coattails, and Mikel Arteta’s charges threw everything at City in a pulsating game at the Etihad, but they came up just short. They profited from a lapse in concentration from Gianluigi Donnarumma when Kai Havertz charged down his clearance which flew into the net. However, City upped the ante, and Bernardo Silva turned in a stunning performance.

Scoring from open play has been more trying in recent weeks, and the defeat to Bournemouth encompassed this. Arteta’s side need to be more aggressive from the off, but perhaps the Spaniard needs to be a little less frantic if his side are going to end their long wait to clinch the league.

Key Players to Watch

  • Declan Rice
Although anonymous at times against City, Declan Rice has been Arsenal’s metronomic midfielder this term. Five goals and four assists underline his importance to the cause.
  • Eberechi Eze
Despite flitting in and out of Arsenal’s starting XI, Eberechi Eze is direct and has an eye for goal. He could give Newcastle’s back line a working over.
  • Gabriel
Gabriel wears his heart on his sleeve, and apart from his physical presence, he is a threat in the air, and he scored the winner in the corresponding fixture against Newcastle, so he will have fond memories of that!

Arsenal Team News

Arsenal will be hoping to have Bukayo Saka back fit, but he’s a doubt to face Newcastle, as is Riccardo Calafiori, so both will be assessed.

Newcastle United Current Form – WWLLL

Far from the high of last season, where they lifted the League Cup, Newcastle have failed to reach those standards, and they are currently 14th in the table.

Eddie Howe, who has largely done a terrific job, has come under the microscope, and there have been growing rumours that he could be replaced in the dugout in the summer.

Last weekend, the Magpies suffered another damaging defeat, this time at home to Bournemouth. Despite managing more touches in the penalty area than the Cherries, Newcastle failed to seize the initiative, and no team has conceded more late goals than Newcastle (19) this term.

Defending set-pieces well and being more inventive could be key to Newcastle leaving London with a positive result.

Key Players to Watch

  • Harvey Barnes
With pace to burn and an eye for goal, Harvey Barnes gives Newcastle plenty of dynamism. He could be a thorn in the Arsenal side.
  • Sandro Tonali
Comfortable on the ball and great at breaking the lines, Sandro Tonali will be happy to roll up his sleeves and stop the supply to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and co.
  • Lewis Miley
He may be just 19 years old, but Lewis Miley has been an important cog, laying on four assists, and he is exciting on the ball.

Newcastle United Team News

Anthony Gordon (hip) and Fabian Schar (ankle) are ruled out for this game, but Howe should be able to field a strong side to face Arsenal.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Arsenal (4-3-3)

Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie, Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice, Havertz, Martinelli; Eze

  2. Newcastle United (4-3-3)

Ramsdale; Livramento, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Tonali, Miley, Ramsey, Elanga, Osula; Barnes

Suggested Bets

Regulated betting operators will be loaded with pre-game lines, and these have influenced our matchday predictions.

  1. Over 2.5 Goals: There have been some frenetic clashes over the years, and although this line has been fulfilled once in the past four league clashes at the Emirates, we’re veering towards the Over segment. (4/7 with Dragon Bet)

  2. First Goal – Arsenal: A strong start is imperative, and in the past two home clashes, the Gunners have seized the initiative, so this is worth backing. (41/100 with Betnero)

  3. Arsenal Double Chance: Arsenal have a strong home record, and they haven’t tasted defeat at the Emirates against Newcastle since 2010, so the double chance line has legs. (1/7 with 247Bet)

Value Bets

If you’re on the hunt for value, the following lines posted by renowned football bookies are worth tapping up.

  1. Arsenal Correct Score (2-1): The Gunners haven’t been convincing lately, and they haven’t scored more than once in their past six matches in all competitions, but they could step things up, and a 2-1 victory seems a decent shout. (13/2 with BetVickers)

  2. Newcastle to Win Either Half: Newcastle were in charge for large chunks of the corresponding fixture, so the Magpies to win either half appeals. (2/1 with Lucky Mate)

  3. 1st Half (1 Goal): Two of the previous three clashes have witnessed at least a goal scored in the first 45 minutes, so check out this line. (17/10 with Best Odds)

Prediction: Draw

From an Arsenal perspective, they can ill-afford any more slip-ups with City ready to pounce. Although they have a strong home record against Newcastle, the Magpies won’t want to let their season fizzle out.

In the corresponding fixture, Newcastle pushed the Gunners hard before falling to a 2-1 defeat. We haven’t been convinced by Arsenal’s performances recently, and it’s hard to make a case for a home win, so we have gone for a draw instead.
